I really dislike trying to sell stuff but getting older and too many pews and reloading presses). is anyone on here always buying and selling,, as in very in touch with the market? i have 3 different 338s i was going to list (along with too many other pews). weatherby 340 mark v i think with nice zeiss scope, AIAX folding chassis, defensive edge terminator 338 ackley improved +P. am i going to end up taking a like 50% loss? any demand for these particular rifles? keeping my kirby allen 338 AI Raptor. i put the AIAX along with 300 rds of ammo on the hide a few years ago and some hack offered like 1000 it's got to be worth more than that, i would hope. well,,, flame on or helpful responses appreciated

IMO custom guns, especially in those non-common calibers will be a little harder to part with as you need to find the right guy or they will want to spin off and rebarrel if the components you have are what they are after. Just guessing these are long range rigs given the caliber choice and 338 edge and they cheytacs seem to be the more common flavors. Throw it out there for what you want and see what happens would be my advice FWIW.

Why do you have to sell it a loss although that's normally the way it goes for me as well, add up what you have in it and list the price but also remind people of wait times for barrels and stocks and maybe the possibility they cannot get that particular item at all right now!

Selling guns sucks ! Everyone is hunting a deal and seller just trying not to loose his @** . Seems no one wants offer a legit price . Ive never sold anything and felt good about it after . Good luck with your venture . And I plan on being buried with my 338 Allen Express , of course my daughter will forbid that and keep it ! 🤣 🤣 🤣

Gun market is soft, highly saturated & not looking to change due to a 2A supporting President stepping into office. Only way to find out is to market it & see if there is someone who wants it. Other option is to trade it out for something else & not necessarily another firearm. Based on experience, best time to sell is during or after tax season when everyone is getting their returns & or preparing for the upcoming fall harvest. Just my $0.02…….

As others have said, selling a custom, or semi-custom, is difficult because for the price it commands a lot of folks look at it in the context of "I can spend 25% more and get exactly what I want". Especially with "non-standard" chamberings.
I would probably start out at about 15-20% less than the actual dollar amount that you spent (adjusted for inflation of course) and go from there.

Another way to recoup a bit more is to part it out. You may get stuck with the barrel, but the chassis/stock, action, components, etc., will usually sell.

I have been through 8 or 9 maybe 10 338's in last few years. But I was back in Montana and had the room to stretch them way out !
Yes they were the thing to have back a few years ago , 338 Rum , 338 Edge ect.
Now we are getting different/better performance with new Caliber's.

Your looking for that very few group of shooters that just cant give up on the big 338's !!
So I'm sad to say but it's a good chance you will loose money on all of them .
But there is always that one guy looking and waiting for that type of set up to be Listed !! 😎😎😎

I'm sure I will be Buried with a 338 Edge !
Atleast that's what I'm thinking !!

I'm older than 80 with guns I should sell. But so are lots of others on this site, Unfortunately, a gun like anything else is worth what someone will pay for it. Not what it cost to build. In addition, I started a thread recently suggesting that calibers above 308 are no longer needed for game other than the dangerous kind. And then a 375 or above is better. With advances in bullets and faster twist barrels 308 and below now does anything a 338 will do with less recoil.

I totally understand. I'm in the same boat. All my rifles are on the fancy stock engraved and high polish blue .My son(only heirl) doesn't want anything unless it a plastic stock and a 100 dollar Scope and he's already picked out what he wants (the first ones I gave him as he was growing up he's 23 )
So I been asking around gunshops and pawnshops unfortunately they all say the same thing
We can give away a Mauser with a fancy stock and a 03 is the same way
Let us know what you find out
