What is the longest shot you have made on a live target

175 yards.? Buck running right to left and away. Lobbed it about 7 feet out front. Fired, prayed, heard the thump a split second later. Then finally found him and he was hit in the large vessels in front of his back haunches. Gut cavity full of blood, no intestines nicked. Fat body , little head...named him zeek. Sage fed deer are yummy.

740 yards. Wounded pronghorn (by someone else, I had a tag too) in New Mexico, headed off the property. From a bipod, steep downhill. Anchored him on the spot. Very gratifying. I can think of four other big game critters between 500 and 600. A rockchuck at 750, if that counts.

The most amazing one happened when I was 17. I shot a rockchuck at over 100 yards, with a .22 pistol, single hand. Surprised all involved.

1017 on a Prairie Dog back in 1990 on the Rosebud in South Dakota shooting my buddies custom 7STW on a rare nearly windless evening. My first real exposure to true long range shooting. I've made longer shots since but that is THE SHOT that got me hooked on long range. I don't recall what range finder he was using(either a 600 or 800 yard model), but we would walk out about half way and range back to the trucks and then out to where the PDs were to establish a baseline range for doing ballistic calculations. We are so spoiled now with all the tech available to shooters.
