What do you think of the 6.5 WBY RPM ?

Coyote_Hunter,

You can get a 5 pound rifle for $350?

Nope. But for about $3000 in savings I don't mind carrying around another pound or two. My Ruger Scout cost more ($700 new) but will do everything I need 95% of the time or more, at 6.25 pounds.

A new Ruger American in .270 Win can be had for around $325 and weighs 6.2 lbs per Ruger. I load Daughter's .270 with a 150g ABLR and it is good well past 600 yards for our needs (elk).

Just read in American rifleman that weatherby is dropping their ammo prices by 30%. With that discount it's still one of the most expensive ammunition you can buy. When you can buy the new lapua/berger ammo that has lapua brass and a 140 hybrid for 26 dollars a box in 6.5 creed. For 35 dollars you can buy Norma 300 win mag and you are getting the same brass as weatherby and some of the best bullets made. If you shoot weatherby learn to reload. I think the RPM will be the best long range round you can put on a standard bolt face. Hope they don't price it so high that people don't give it a chance.

Interesting... I think the challenge of WBY ammo is availability almost as much as price... I wonder it that will ever change?

Apples to squash...next.

Don't show up North of the 49th parallel if your planning on buying any Weatherby ammo,,, your hunting trip will come to an end before you leave the store...

Might be wize to have a few $100 dollars bills in your pocket since its going to be expensive in Cnd funds...

Our Farm Implement dealers is selling Standard mid size factory ammo at $20 to $27 Cnd funds,,, Magnum cartridges at $32 to $42...

So a person would walk out of the store with 3 or 4 boxes of ammo for a hundred bucks... If a person does the factory ammo thing...

The Reloader folks would see the savings so long as the brass is reasonably priced,,, Weatherby brass won't be one of those options...

Best bang for the buck is standard cartridge size cases... Pennies on the dollar...

Cheers from the North

Coyote_Hunter,

No thanks. I'm the quintessential little old man at 5'7" and 150 pounds. I will take the lightest three lug rifle I can get.

Same size as my daughter, the one that shoots the M700 .270 Win. She might weigh less, though.

But I appreciate your point. At 6' and 220, and while I appreciate light rifles and light recoil (which tend to be mutually exclusive without brakes), spending $3000 to solve what I consider a $400 or less problem... well, sign me up for the looney bin if I go that route. :)

I always love these long talks on cartridges that make no sense,,, I really miss them!!! LMMFAO!!
my 2 cents on this thing!
while I enjoy the hell out new stuff and like that companies are really trying ...….kind of....!!>>>>>> but it reminds me of the whole 300 PRC hype! I think it went something like this
INTRODUCING yep you guessed it YET another 30cal that yet does the same exact thing as the 300 win mag in a shiny new case! Everyone falls back on the argument " well its throated really really long and so it has to be better, oh and had you forgot that it doesn't have a stupid evil belt which everyone knows causes accuracy issues, (insert cricket sounds here) Oh and you cant load a 300 win mag into a standard mag box in a sammi chamber with a high BC bullets blah blah blah ((( more crickets ))))).. well all of the above is really really really false and shows what people will believe just cuzz the big corps say so!! its like cartridges in same caliber and same case capacity same everything basically out doing the other said non modified case by 100fps at least> and saying it does it more efficiently (((( ALOT OF CRICKETS HERE and a dumbfounded look on said face))) .. makes me laugh aloud ALOT!! the 6.5 RPM as its called should have been a 6.5-06 AI ,,,, already fits in a standard mag box, already has a standard bolt face, proven case, already has a healthy following, already out does this thing..... shall I go on!! everyone jumps the **** out of all other cartridges with a rebated rim but not this one, why is that? like the 6.5 PRC is god send and can do no wrong but the crappy old 6.5 SAUM with its dirty little rebated rim couldn't feed in grain bucket! or any of the ultra mags cartridges they're are simply abominations needing replaced LOL. while I agree with almost everyone on the fact that yes that's what makes the rifle world so awesome and we all have choices and so on, why do companies have to follow instead of lead!! like Roy weatherby did …in the generation of the "270 win is the best rifle cartridge made" he stepped up and said " hold my beer and watch this" that was industry changing ****, I mean no one can argue that... yeah you may not like the weatherby cases or whatever, but you cant honestly say that in its time and place he had no rivals!! even now the 30 and 338-378 are the fastest production made cartridges out there and they're stupid accurate in the right build!! yeah the brass is outrageously priced but dam a 225 gr bullet in the 338 at 3400fps in a 26" barrel what other 338 in production platform does that! That's what we need in this era of High bc bullets and so on …. sorry enough with the rambling I just wish these companies would realize that we want bad *** not ho hum!

I like grannies with kosher salt. Especially sitting in my stand with a rifle on my lap. Any rifle as long as it's not a 270. Just kidding John.
