What do you think of the 6.5 WBY RPM ?

I have ben looking for some one to make a 23 & 29 caliber for years!!! :)
 
I am really intrigued by the Weatherby Mark V Backcountry 6.5 WBY RPM combo.. However, my biggest frustration with Weatherby cartridges is the cost and availability of the ammo... I think the package is pretty slick, but with other 6.5s being easier to source I would hesitate on the WBY RPM until it takes off and I could stockpile some brass..... With that said.....at 500 yards that extra energy over the Creedmoor is impressive.

In the attached picture, Just focusing on the 500 yard line for WBY RPM vs Creedmoor using the 143gr ELD-X bullet.. RPM seems to shine there for hunting purposes, at least to this LR rookie's untrained eye....

High country, I appreciate your comments with regard to the cost and availability of some Weatherby products although I am a Weatherby fan. Take a look at a .264 Win. Mag. and see if it might not fulfill your need.

You can not compare the RPM to the CM, apples to oranges. If you want to make a comparison, it has to be the RPM to the PRC. There you will get the apples to apples. Although the RPM has a slight edge, the dollar sign in the end will tell what wins out. Loaded ammo, brass price and rifle price will push towards the PRC. Especially when the PRC becomes available in Tikka's, Savage's and Ruger priced rifles. All of you WBY fans can criticize all you want but that is my point.
 
The PRC is one of the short fat mags, right? Any feeding issues? I hunted with a guy who had a .270 WSM and was far from impressed... (feeding issues)

That's not apples to apples...the PRC is a short mag, the RPM is a standard long action.

That's also why I think the prc will win over the rpm. I see a lot of new hunters trending towards fast short action lightweight rigs.

I want a 4.9lb WBY Backcountry TI but the $3349 price tag suggests the .264WM, 6.5PRC, 26 Nosler, .280AI, 28 Nosler or a bolt head change on the donor and a 6.5-06AI would save me about $3000.

Considering I already have a custom 6.5 rifle for shooting out to 1200 yards and my hunting is limited to 600 yards max (~500 yards being the longest ever in 38 years) an analysis of the performance capabilities of the various cartridges suggests the game would never know the difference.

I'd like a shiny new F250 or F350 diesel to replace my 2005 F150 gas burner as well, but in a similar vein can't justify it on the basis of the return. They won't do anything for me that my F150 won't do just or nearly as well. Mama may have raised a fool, but it wasn't me.

I already have two 6.5 Grendel's, a 260 and a 264WM so I think I'm covered for now. Until they come up with a 4000fps for a 140 grainer that I can burn a barrel out just sighting it in.
