Why all the poo-poo of the belt, set your dies up to bump .002 off the shoulder and for a hunting gun your good to go.

Not only that but the guy said he isn't going to reload. Belt is a non-issue if you aren't reloading the same case multiple times. It's a non-issue if you do reload if you set your dies right and use the Willis Collet Die every 3 firings. I get 10+ firings from Winchester brass before the primer pockets finally are too loose.

300 WSM has less powder capacity, shorter/fatter better case design and equates the 300 Win Mag by burning less powder ....

the 300 Win Mag, 300 PRC, 300 Nosler, 300 Wby all burn more powder ...

Calibre is sorted - you have a 30 calibre barrel. Despite what the clowns in the gun media quote, Calibre is NOT the cartridge, it is the size of the hole down the barrel.

As for the cartridge of choice? 300 WM or 300 WSM are easy to find and perform well.

Not reloading is the deal breaker. 308 Win runs out of energy 800 yards and beyond. 30-06 is a great option with 20% + speed/energy and you can find ammo anywhere. If your after elk than go with the 300WM. It can shoot factory ammo from 130 to 220grs. Consider environmental factors such as wind, angle shooting, shooting down from a bluff has up drafts. Beyond 500 yds varying conditions can make or break a hunt.

Just a thought here about wanting to stay with factory ammo. If you truly want long range accuracy, no sniper uses factory ammo; it's all hand loaded. The exact weight of powder in every round (I'm talking plus or minus one speck of powder) is what gives you consistent FPS which translates to trajectory. My hand loads usually have a 10 FPS max spread with some repeat exact fps vs sometimes 80 fps with premier factory stuff, out of ten shots. At 100 yards the hand loads hit exactly in a horizontal line while the factory stuff printed up and down on the target.

How many snipers are on here? Probably a couple and WaYYYYYYY too many wannabees. Given today's technology and consistency, if factory shoots sub moa and in some rifles 1/2 moa, then why reload?

Only the 300 Win Mag is available everywhere in the world. You will lose oe have delayed ammo if you hunt enough. The availability of the ammo is an important consideration if you travel to hunt.

I just bought an .30 cal hc carbon barrel blank from elk hunter in the classifieds to build a 800 yard light weight hunting rifle. Im not quite sure what caliber I should chamber it in.

I DO NOT RELOAD SO FACTORY AMMO IS A BIG CONSIDERATION
