What bullet? Elk 300wsm

What bullet should I load in my Kimber 8400 300wsm? Hunting elk out to 600 yards max. 1:10 twist, 24" pencil barrel. Pretty lightweight overall rifle as well. It has a short mag well with hinged floor plate so I am unable to seat the big heavy's way out. Thanks,

How well does the gun shoot at 600 at this time?

I would go with the 154gn Hammer HHT, should get some fast and flat trajectory from that bullet with excellent terminal performance at range.

I, too have a short mag well, but my load for my .300 WSM is 215 Berger (.080" off the lands, COAL 2.968"/CBTO 2.197") at 2850 FPS, also with 24" and 1:10" barrel.

I think too this would be worth a try if you're having trouble getting others to shoot. Out to 600 yd, this will get it done nicely. These would be worth looking at too.

Lot's of good choices. There are essentially two camps: Camp 1) Deep penetration with good expansion (as compared to camp 2) - these would be Accubonds, TTSXs, LRXs, Partitions etc. and Camp 2) less penetration with rapid expansion and heavy fragmentation - Bergers, ELD-Xs etc.

Which is best often turns into a religious war. I happen to be in camp 1 as I like to make sure that I can punch a hole through both lungs even if I have to penetrate a shoulder first.

Either way I would choose a 165 thru 190 weight bullet.

Try a seating depth test, but to me flyers sound like a different issue.
