6.5mm got my vote, because it's my favorite Whitetail caliber to extended ranges; however if I'm hunting East Texas where my shots are less than 250 yards, I'll be shooting my .22-250. I've killed lots or deer and pigs with that little rifle.

I have a custom Mauser in 7 X 57 that has been my go to gun for deer for many years. It is amazing in accuracy and reliability in all sorts of weather and easy to shoot off hand out to 100 yards.

Great, you have to like it & have to have confidence in it &
Have fun shooting it, & Last of all can shoot it. It all boils down to the quality of the glass and the nut behind the trigger!! LOL
If it hurts when pulling the trigger then it is not fun & most shooters will do what I call jump the trigger.
Keep enjoying shooting & pass it down to the young shooters!!

I believe in the theory that guns are like golf clubs. You have to choose the right one for the day. I have shot deer with 223, 256 Win mag, 22-250, 250 savage (loaded to modern pressure), 25 wssm, 25-06, 257 Q&A (beets weatherby by 200fps), 6.5CM, 300 Dakota.
My favorite caliber is .257. I voted 6.5 since it wasn't available.
It's a shame that. 257's don't have industry support.

I was curious of what caliber is the favorite for white tail deer hunting. Thank you!
My most favorite deer rifle is the 6.5x55 Swede. It just doesn't get any better than that. I have used everything from a 257 Roberts to a 7x57 and everything in between. I keep going back to the Swede. I have never had to track a deer very far, it has really light recoil, (your children can shoot it). It is very accurate on either short range or long range shots, there are many different types of bullets that can be used. The wind has very little effect on the round due to the bullet length. It is one impressive rifle.

I've killed a lot of WT with an old Model 99 in a 300 Savage. Later in life, used several different cal's, 7mm mag, 30-06, to 300WM. Currently building a 6.5-284, and am starting to carry an old 35 Rem for thick deep woods. It's all in application...

I've taken deer with a lot of different rifles and calibers over the years my first deer was taken with a universal 30carbine many years ago I've killed em with 308,270,2506,3006,6mm06,7mm08,6.5brm,300wm and I'm sure there are others to but my all time biggest Missouri monster 178&6/8 was taken with my ruger #1 in 6.5 wsm 2years ago then last year I took a 156&2/8 12 point with the same rifle shooting 140 bergers that is my favorite rifle period
Wouldn't that be 178 & 3/4", and 156 & 1/4"? :D
