VIDEO... Charging Bear Pistol Test

Sense he lives in Alaska and works sometimes on Kodiak Island, he had to be concerned about the real live possibility of confronting a charging bear within a 20-30 yd distance while it's getting up it's full rate of speed. We all have our theory's, but testing time may ONLY be only ONE TIME.. so you better make it good. Sitting here behind a computer and thinking about what I would do, is nothing compared to gaining some common sense knowledge along with developing some muscle memory for that time when the brain goes blank during stark horror. For me... I ain't going up into bear country again without a 10,mm semi pistol, loading up with 15 Hot rounds.

Good video. I have never been charged by a grizzly. The closest situation was at about 30-35 yards in willows so thick you could not see that far. I reached for my blackhawk and decided that the rifle in my hands was better. I backed up faster than I thought I could as quiet as I could. after I felt that I was far from danger I tried to remove my revolver from the holster, but my hand felt a little weak for some reason. I like hunting out in the open.

I just came across this Guy's charging bear testing system and thought you Guys might enjoy it... he even has another video of doing it with rifles and shotguns... it's a true eye opener as to how many accurate shots that might be possible during a 2-3 second charge.

Some good Double Tap or Buffalo Bore in the 10, and he's a dead bear at your feet....however, you just really ****ed him off with the .44.

I wonder how it would've ended with a smaller caliber handgun? Stopping power is a real thing. When a creature is h*** bent on doing you harm, I would rather hit the one time with a 350+ gr. bullet traveling over 1800 fps than 3 times with a 150 gr. at 1000 fps.
10mm bear loads are 200 to 22O hard cast. Your first shot with a 10mm might be good also ... If not keep shooting. You don't know, even if you don't hit the bear, the report from pistol or round hitting near him may stop the charge. Most likely you might get one round off with a bolt action rifle. So, you have to decide if you have time ahead of time , am I going to shoot one shot with rifle and then chance drawing my pistol? Most likely your rifle is going to be shouldered. My reaction if I had time would be grab my shoulder holstered 10 mm Glock and get what shots off I could..if on the ground keep shooting. Maybe griz will bite my bear spray bottle ..Maybe my Chesapeake will rip his balls off. Who knows ? Nobody knows until it happens. You can't predict. These bear protection threads are entertaining. They always come out after draw results 🙄

To me, just me. Sled going a little fast at distance . If was 10 or 15 yards. Yes.

It just reinforces how difficult it would be even if you were ready for a charging bear. In some bear charges you may not even have time to put your hand on your gun or bear spray before the bear has already made physical contact with you.

I liked how he said it is best to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Very important if you are in bear country or dealing with urban predators. The second most important thing is to practice and create "muscle memory". A guy that is proficient with a 22 LR is better off than the guy with a 44 mag or 10mm that doesn't know how to use it.
You want good practice ? Hunt in Griz country by yourself... I don't anymore . I take at least one dog. Other too young yet but he's fearless. My hearing is shot. I key off him.
