Thoughts on 257 Ackley build

On a Roberts AI, there is not much of a downside, low recoil, smidge of powder, and accuracy is an understatement. I have a barrel that I have only fireformed brass for. I would like to shoot 87g Speer Hot core or 80g Barnes ttsx at warp speed as it is not a long-range rig.

25 Creed due to mag constraints on a short action is the winner, and better yet Wyatt's mag box which is .125 longer is supplied with a longer follower.

You're .257 Weatherby isn't a short action chambering. Feel free to take it to a .257 Weatherby thread. I have a 6.5 .338 Utra Mag Improved, that launches 160gr VLD's @ 3460 that will stomp your Weatherby into a mud hole but then again. I wouldn't bring that to a .257 Weatherby thread because it's not in the same class. 🙂🙂🙂

Left to right.

.458 Ultra Mag, .375 Ultra Mag Improved, 6.5 .338 Ultra Improved, .338 Ultra Mag case.

I play with my share of wildcats.👍

There's something special about the 257AI. The 22-284 will get you another 100 fps with a 100 grain bullet without fire forming. Brass availability would guide my decision.

I have not yet decided Started on another project for the house and set this one on the back burner to give some more thought. The 25 creed is something to think about.

Hmmm - I've never thought of the 25CM, I'll have to start digging up info. I think it would be a fine short action capable cartridge if you don't want to go too long with the bullets - just my imagination at work tho.

Ackleyfan, look before you leap. Those heavy 25-caliber bullets need some throat. Others with hands-on experience I hope will chime in.

25 Creedmoor 1-7 and done. Throated for Berger 135's but rocks the Berger Hunter 115's @ 3178 spooky accurate.

This looks like a winner to me! Short action 700s may benefit from Wyatt's mag box.
