The Berger 156 EOL is done

Karamojo Bell killed tons of elephants with a 6.5x54. And something like 700 with a 7mm mausers. Those are definatly not the hotrods we use today. But effective in his hands. I know he didn't shoot them at 1000 yards but it does show the penetrating power of a long for caliber bullet.

I personally feel its more about marksmanship than the size of the round. I have laid enough game to rest with a .243 and 25-06 to have full faith with proper placement it always works efficiently. I just cant seem to enjoy or shoot the heavy recoil rounds as good so my confidence is in 6mm, .257, & 6.5mm for just about any hunting situation I can think of in north america. The 156 EOL with adequate velocity seems like perfect elk medicine.

Guy on the 6.5rpm thread says the 6.5 is too little for long range hunting. What says you guys on that.

Nonsense: poke accurate holes in vital organs and your mammal target will expire. I used to chase larger more powerful magnums at the expense of bigger bullets and more powder but the elk I killed with a 338-378 arent any more deader than elk I shot with a 257 weatherby. If anything the 257 kills were more dramatic.
More often I find myself using my 6.5-257 weatherby. Flat, light recoil and cheats the wind

6.5 bullets has amazing sectional density. Eol 156gr is 0.32. Elk standard is 0.25+ which is class 3 GAME, in same category of moose. Class 4 is dangerous game and 0.3+ recommended. Class 2 such as deer, goat etc needs 0.2+.
People hunted elk with 130-150 grains for ages, so now suddenly 156gr, 0.32 sectional density, and amazing BC not good enough? This pill has greater sectional density than a lot of 338+ caliber bullets. Im not saying density is everything, but it is very, very important. At a moment, its most perfect overall bullet for long range. We will see what 7mm hornandy a-tips will offer once it comes out.

It has practically the same energy as the 180vld in a 7mag and the same as a 210vld in a 300 win mag at 1000 yards. And less wind drift. Did the calculations at 3200 for the 6.5 from a 6.5-257wby. I think my new 6.5 Saum will be able to do 3100 with that bullet. Any info on the eol in the 6.5 Saum would be appreciated.

That's not an apples to apples comparison. By I will run it from a 6.5 300wby and compare it. And the 215 at that speed will feel like twice the recoil.

Run a 215 Berger at 3100 and see what you get if you wanna compare energy for arguements sake.

Regardless of the energy, both will make critters into steaks accurately at long range. What a great time to be a long range shooter

The big 215 only has 300 ft pounds more. I guess you might need that extra if you need your meat extra dead. Just dead is enough for me. Once their dead I can catch them on foot. Even as disabled as I am. Kind of an inside joke on my wife who ask me every time I come home (did you catch one?) I just tell her I can only catch the dead ones.

What's impressive is the 250 a tip @3000 fps has 600ftlbs. More than the 215@3100. Can a rum push that 250 @ 3000?

I'm not making and arguement against any 6.5 I've shot numerous bulls with a 140 berger and they've done just fine
Throw numbers around comparing a 300 WM against a 6.5 156 at 3200 which not vary many cartridges will do.
You wanna compare some real fast 6.5 with 156 then let's compare some real fast 30's with 215

or a real fast 230!
