The Beast 30-06

I need to play with R-16 powder some more with the 180gr.I really have been working with the 168gr Ballistic Tips more than anything. The 30-06 is really an amazing cartridge. So many bullet weights and powders work so well and you seem to always end up with a full case of powder.I swear I think I could just fill the case by sight and it would shoot well.

In mine I got better velocity with H4350 with 180's. With RL-16 I got to about 2750 vs H4350 easily hitting 2820. I only tried it because a buddy of mine was pushing 142 SMK's at 2770 in his needmoor. I had to show him what it would do in a real cartridge 😂

Took my 28" PacNor barreled 30-06 to the range today to try the Reloader 26 loads. This thing is a beast with the 28" barrel. The 63.5gr load of Reloader26 with a 180gr Accubond clocked at 2992fps on my Magnetospeed and I tried 61.0grs of Reloader26 with a 200gr Accubond and it clocked at 2815fps.Wow,great groups too.

Good results and glad to see another true '06 velocity fan. For decades, a few of us have long bragged on a properly barreled, throated and loaded '06 for its "near" 300 velocities with more efficiency and very good accuracy. Modern powders and bullets have only added to its versatility and effective range.

Was the 200 AB about the same length? My Mauser magbox is about 3.400" long so I wanted to see if it'll fit. You may see me with a 26-28" barrel too!
Yes the 200 AB is set at the same length. My rifle barrel is not long throated and I like that.I think it's much easier to load for.I'm running my bullets .025 - .030 off the lands at that length.

You are shooting my favorite and only hunting caliber. For the life of me I do not understand why manufacturers do not offer the 30-06 with 26" barrels to start with. Using 22" barrels robs the cartridge at a minimum of 200 fps, with your barrel at 28" which I consider an excellent choice really ups the caliber's potential to its maximum capabilities.
