6mm 108 Berger Hunter terminal & accuracy feedback

Anyone else?
Try this thread as it's a little newer and not 4 years old.

Since 2021 I have went another direction with the 6mm ARC. Not that I had any less than, experience with the Berger offerings. I simply wished to give monolithic offerings a try. For my use thus far, the monolithic offerings have been doing everything I have hoped for.

My take away is there are a good number of very good 6mm hunting bullet options & the 108 grain Elite Hunter is still one of them. Though I have yet to experience a down side to utilizing heavy for caliber lead-free options & I get the comfort of going lead free.

B4 anyone goes there, I live in a state that allows me to choose lead bullets as well as the lead free. I simply chose to give the lead free a try & for me, there have been no regrets.

Truth be told I would say the terminal effect of the monolithic likely drops off 100 yards or so sooner than the high BC cup & core offerings. Though this has not come into play for my hunting style.

It hammers. I've taken 2 or 3 doe with it. Wife got her first buck last year.

350yds DRT no bullet recovery thru and thru. I wish they made a 130 or 135 elite hunter for the 6.5. Been trying to decide on a bullet for the 6.5 PRC/SI. Historically I've had pretty terrible results with Berger mainly the 105s out of a 243. This particular bullet has been lights out in the 6cm.

What are you going to use them on from the PRC?

I have shot 135gr Classic Hunter from Berger on cow elk and mule deer with good results. They are from a 6.5x55 though and are slower than PRC will sling them. I would worry about them exploding/splashing with a PRC at close range.

The small mulie my buddy shot at 40yrds with them went down hard. Quartering shot, in behind the shoulder, out thru the chest. The exit was a baseball size hole. The entrance was pretty gnarly too for an entrance. They are only loaded to about 2600fps at the muzzle.

I've been looking and leaning towards the 135. Admittedly I'm trying to forgo recoil with this rifle. It's a Sako 85 that was chambered in 260 that I had re-barreled with a carbon barrel and opened up the bolt face. I remember loading 123gr SSTs for mom at one point and shot 27 times during load development. It honestly sucked. Small pencil barrel, 7lb gun, hard recoil pad, it was not enjoyable at all. So I'm a little concerned now, due to the gun being lighter and moving to a magnum. I've got 100rds of norma 142gr coming in to fireform this week, probably use the brake to do so. I plan on using the Hybrid with it for hunting shouldn't be too bad but I expect of the firearms in rotation it will be the least pleasant to shoot.

I was thinking about it last night I'm pretty sure the first 100rds on our 6.5 SAUM were with the 140gr elite hunter and I had pretty less than stellar results with it. Like pencil holed through, little to no blood trail, etc. But the 108 has been magnificent thus far. We switched from the 140gr EH to the 143gr ELD-X in that particular gun and dad has been rolling with it since.
