Swarovski btx vs 15x binos

I'm thinking the 12x42's will be the option to go with! I've got a friend that has a pair I'm going to try out and if they are as good as everyone sayes, I will probably pull the trigger. That and a new tripod should change the glassing game for me.

Nice. Rumor has it a 12x52 will be coming out. That would make sense as they also have a 10x52 now.

That's a heck of a deal and an excellent head. I'd look for 3 leg section tripod as it's been my experience the 4 leg section tripods are not very stable when fully extended for standing. I've got a very similar setup with that same head but went with the 3 leg sections instead. JMO

Just got back from Arizona. Was a mule deer hunt in Unit 10. Open country, hours of time in the glass. I run Zeiss 10x50 in my Marsupials and 15x56 on the tripod. I spotted some good bucks from 200 yards to 1.6 miles away. At 1.6 miles, even at 730 am the heat waves and morning thermals made it impossible to count points. My buddy had the Swaro BTX set up. Actually made things worse. More power, more thermal interference. Get some 15's and get a good glassing chair or pad. They will do everything you need them to do. 30x magnification is good, but not in windy or desert sunrise conditions. It was 34 degrees, but with the morning sun heating up the dirt, spotter style magnification was worthless.

The vast majority of my time glassing is in Arizona and Mexico. I am often using my BTX or ATX.

Your experience is probably more of an exception than a rule.

Heat waves are brutal to deal with in the dead of heat, even with the best glass. I was dealing with it last week during our Coues hunt in 96 degrees.

Yes, they are! I've had the same thing happen in Utah and Wyoming. Wyoming winds are difficult to say the least. I hunt 3 or 4 states every year and unless the conditions are perfect, spotter stays in the truck.

It really amounts to how you will use it or where you hunt. I have 15X binos and a BTX and the spotter is by far the most comfortable tool for spotting animals. I dont really understand people above saying you cant use it inside of 1,500 yards as that is simply not true. I use it at as close as 100 yards and out. Packing it complaints are fair but it always goes in my pack with tripod, with the 65mm body it is the same as any other spotter, I just pack one less poptart (strawberry), I think it feels about the same.

The 14's were just released so many have not even had the chance to look through them. I was fortunate and able to get behind both and spend a few hours using each.

A problem with the BTX is it splits the light path in half to reach both eyes. With the 65mm objective it effectively becomes about a 25 mm equivalent objective diameter if a spotter. I've only found it useful in very bright light.
