Ruger precision rifle

I like the idea. I feel like the aftermarket barrel makers are going to really step up and offer some great calibers with awesome barrels. How is the headspace controlled on these? I know how an AR barrel assembly is installed but I guess I don't know how they set the headspace when they ream out the chamber.

solocam,

Remember, with CAD/CAM these days tight tolerances are not expensive. And the Computer Aided Design really helps to make sure all parts "like" each other.

Ruger has had some excellent designs over the years and the RPR looks to be one of their best. There are some very expensive production competition rifles out there that do not shoot any better than the RPR, if as well. Read a report on the FN Ballista. Nice rifle but the best groups were over 1/2 MOA. And the rifle is going for $4,800.
Jus' sayin'...

Well i thought I would keep this going. These Rifle are selling like crazy. It will be a long time till any dealer can keep them in stock. I have yet to see a bad review. They are all shooting well under moa. I wish I could see for myself. No telling when mine will be in. I went ahead and orderd a 6x 24 Viper pst from Len Monday and I got it today. Great service! I have reworked my brass, now just waiting for the rifle. I am going out of town for a couple of weeks maybe by the time I get back it will come in. Could get lucky?

Re: Ruger precision rifle (Magpul PRS butt stock)

I just took a close look at the Magpul PRS (Precision Rifle Stock) and it looks like a great replacement for the very nice Ruger adjustable stock IF I want a cleaner butt stock for coyote hunting, which I think I will.

The Magpul PRS even has a slide-off toe cap that reveals a Picatinny rail for mounting a hand hook or monopod. That's a very nice feature.

There are two models of the PRS, one for AR 110 and one for AR 16. The only difference is that the AR 16 version has a longer cheekpiece according to their customer service people. That's the one I would choose.

Wait a year or two and they will be everywhere. I remember when Ruger came out with the LCP pistol. At first you couldn't find one anywhere. Now they are a dime a dozen.

Who knows, in that time there may be a whole new bunch of precision rifles from competitors coming out? Ruger has cornered the market for now but it won't last forever.

It hasn't been that way for the RAR Predator, but we shall see.

So I guess I will give my opinion too...

Ruger makes a fantastic rifle out of the box. I don't own any of their bolt guns only a few 10/22's. they specialize in making a rifle that affordable and reliable. having said that, when I saw this thing, I was impressed. so impressed in fact, I had the same reactions lots of you guys did. I wanted to go out and buy a .308.

but then I got to thinking, hammer forged barrel, barrel nut, no good aftermarket triggers? that makes me want to wait and see if Basix or Jewel will put a trigger out. I doubt Jewel will but Basix will at some point I am sure.

I am not a fan of the barrel nut. savage either.

and I really don't like hammer forged barrels.

so this is my opinion. if you want something out of the box that you are going to put a break and trigger in and never do more, this is probably the winner at this point because of the sweet AR stock, magazine setup and pre threaded barrel. but if you are thinking you want to put a different barrel on it, better just buy a stripped down remmy and start from scratch.

If you can build a rifle that is more reliable, shoots straighter and accommodates changing barrels any easier, than you've accomplished something regardless of the price.

every other Ruger Ive had~ Ive sold...... I got a Rem 700 308/Rem 700 SPSV H&S stocked .243. Im gonna let this one play out for a few yrs,not a big fan of rugers but if the market gets flooded and the price drops~maybe~. Who dumps a Remmy for a Ruger? just sayin.
