Ruger precision rifle

every other Ruger Ive had~ Ive sold...... I got a Rem 700 308/Rem 700 SPSV H&S stocked .243. Im gonna let this one play out for a few yrs,not a big fan of rugers but if the market gets flooded and the price drops~maybe~. Who dumps a Remmy for a Ruger? just sayin.

Likely more in the future would, as others just stated.

I have been a Rem fan for a long time & own more M700's than anything, Sendero's etc. (and will likely keep those), however things like this change over time. I have seen the Savage faze come along, and still is a preference with some to a degree & we may be entering an era where it could be Ruger's turn, we shall see. I do know their barrels are way ahead of past Ruger's and it appears they hit a new benchmark with this rifle, time will tell.

It is great to have more choices.

I'm not hearing any reports of one of these rifles not shooting, feeding or extracting well. Customers seem very pleased. You may prefer one brand over another but if you don't have at least a 90% likelihood of the rifle "you" purchased, being everything you expected it to be, then that brand has some serious internal problems and your really just gambling at that point. For quite a few years, it's been more or less accepted that to make almost any factory rifle decent, you needed to smith the trigger, possibly change the stock and bed the action. This rifle seems to have delivered on the promise of "getting what you thought you were buying". Like Ruger's or don't like them... everybody should be glad to see a manufacturer build something based around what the customer wanted rather that what fit easily into their production operations model. In the next 5-10 years, don't expect Ruger to be the sole proprietor of the only mass produced precision rifle that will probably be as good as you thought it would be although it may mean some very serious and long overdue changes to the culture of some of these companies. Thanks Ruger. Now take my money.

"Who dumps a Remy for a Ruger?"

Me, for one. I prefer the Ruger's features and hey, I've owned a Remy 700 carbine in .308 that was not so great. And now I have a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 CM that IS accurate. (1/2 to 3/4 MOA average)

Yeah, I have a Remy actioned HS Precision .300 Win mag rifle that's great too BUT it has an HS Precision barrel and massaging of the bolt and trigger.

I'd want a true accuracy comparison between the Ruger and other precision rifles, not a "mad minute" test.

I've got both and will likely keep both.... I'll never dump remmy entirely until ruger can come up with a repeating action that will take on the stw and rums in their standard rifle line.

SCRATCHING MY ITCH - rifle for the Precision Rifle Series

I've been wanting to get into long range rifle competition but my .300 Win mag HS Precision rifle was not permitted locally (Las Vegas) due to its high energy and the corresponding damage to steel targets.

The Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor is the perfect answer foe a retired guy who would face divorce papers if I laid out $3,000.+ on a "normally priced" precision rifle. (I'm not thrilled with Savage rifles and a Tikka T3 was going to be my choice - until the RPR came along. Both have good cold hammer forged barrels but the RPR has so much more.)

The RPR is a good competition rifle for a beginner. That's my story and I'm sticking' to it.

Huntsman,

Nice "paint job" on your RPR. I'm going to get a Magpul grip in their Dark Earth and have some parts Cerakoted in the same color (they have it in their inventory).

Also, as mentioned later I'll get a Magpul Adjustable stock in Dark Earth for hunting if I feel the Ruger stock is too unwieldy for that purpose. Obviously your stocks works just fine in the field.)

This foray into long range competition means I'm upgrading my reloading gear to an electronic scale, Hornady Lock-N-Load press and precision dies from Neil Jones Precision, a guy that has sold me some great .300 Win mag dies.

BTW, what's your scope's model designation and magnification range? I have an old 30 mm Burris Black Diamond on my Browning A-Bolt in 6-18 X 50. It's so old it has MOA turrets and a Mil dot reticle.

Huntsman,

Your Burris XTR II scope's 4 -20 range is nearly identical to my Bushnell ERS 3.5 - 21 scope I'm mounting on my Ruger Precision Rifle. It has an Horus H59 "Christmas tree" reticle.

Both scopes represent excellent value and performance for the money when compared to such high end scopes as S&B, etc.

Must be horrible accuracy. You missed the steel target and accidentally killed all those poor prairie dogs.
