Remington 700 Long Range 300 RUM

I bought one and had my smith look at it. He doesn't have high regard for factory barrels, but said shoot it and see what It does. I had him polish the rough factory chamber and add a muzzle brake. The thing shot 1/3 MOA @300 yds. with Berger 215's, 89.6 grains H1000 2950 fps. this was the most accurate load I found right out of the gate. Chased speed with different powders and bullets until I used up the best barrel life. A buddy bought one at the same time and had similar results with custom "factory" ammo. Others have had similar results and some have not.

What did you get for barrel life, did you have to keep playing with seating depth to chase the lands?

Ahh, around here the are plentiful and most hunters who by a Rum pull the trigger about twice and decide it's more than they can handle. Same with the big .338's.
Yep, my mate bought a 375H&H 'cause I have my 375 Weatherby and he was impressed at how fast it dropped water buff here. He bought factory Winnie 270gr Power Point bullets to sight in with.............first 2 shots and he said he needed a dentist!! Haha. I found those loads VERY mild in my rifle before I re-chambered to the Bee. Lol.

Cheers.

Love my 300 RUM. Got to stretch out to a 1000 yds. this weekend. Shooting MOA consistent.

Don't have the rum, but I have done load development for two different 700 lr 7mm rem mags. One was with 168 Berger vld's, and it is a consistent sub half MOA rifle, sending them at 3050 fps. Multiple times I have seen it print 3"-3.5" 5 shot groups at 750 yards. The other one is loaded up with 180 vld's, and while it does not seem to shoot as good at 100 yards (generally .6" groups) at distance for whatever reason it also consistently prints under half MOA. The most recent shooting session we walked it out to 1230 yards, and my cousin printed a 6" group at that range. The chambers have been known to be a touch rough and cause some sticky extraction, and just need some light polishing. Other than that, no issues that I know of.
