Just for a update on the 300 RUM with bell and Carlson M40 stock. the stock defiantly made a big difference. I am now shooting 3 out of 4 groups .500+-.300 and max about .800" . Did a lot of work and getting good even brass cleaning , trimming to 2.845, weight sorting within 1 gr., made sure the shoulder was within spec of chamber. about 1/2 of my brass had to have the shoulder bumped back .002. (depending on how many times they had been fired). They were all checked in rifle and bolt now close smoothly after the feel of the ejector spring.(those 25 found resistance closing the bolt prior to bumping the shoulder back). It likes .010" off the lands or Base to OJ 3.175. Shooting 89gr Retumbo, 210gr Berger hunting, Fed primers. and yes I am single feeding them. ES is averaging 25 and SD 11.2. I'm considering playing with seating a few back to where they will fit in the magazine. However, I am not too keen on having two lengths of bullets to keep straight out in the field, so the jury is still out on that one and the annealing process is yet to be addressed. Just shot a .918" group at 300 yards and a 3.665" group at 600. that's almost half an MOA if my calculations are correct, However at 600 it was 8" high ( that is because I didn't have my range finder with me. I had physically measured the 300 but stepped off the next 300 it was getting warm in the dessert). Yes I know that wasn't to scientific. Regardless, I am gaining confidence to step up this long range process. (I feel that the trigger also is a week link). The comments about trigger control where it was suggested that the trigger pull should be with follow up, thinking about pulling straight back was very helpful, no more jerking the trigger. I'm excited, this is a lot of fun.
