Rem 700 still no go?

I'm still waiting for the Remington Alpha to come out. Maybe they are ironing out the manufacturing processes as they are going to be a year late. So is the Sako 100. If any company screws up enough times, they're dead.
I don't mind having to do little improvements to fit and finish. Big ones are a lesson learned.

And that's fine as I like to fix things also. I've had manufacturers send out parts to me after some vetting of the issues. In your case if they torqued the action screws to 95 in/lbs that's well beyond factory specs. It's another ding against them if you need to call CS at Remington. I'll post photos of groups although I don't expect great groups until I get a new chassis for it.

100 percent correct on this! My springs came today from J&A Outdoors, said Weds this coming week so I'm super happy with them being here earlier than expected. Put it back together today and sure enough now there is one single scratch line when chambering from the mag from the feed rails on both sides so the 1st and 3rd round from the right hand side and the 2nd round from the left! Going to hit them with the Emery cloth lightly and an abrasive hand pad to smooth them out a touch. All the other scoring has been corrected by the new follower. Off to the range today so I will post a follow up for the most important part.
let us know how it shoots.

She's going back to Remington, groups are pretty good. 1- 1 1/2". Shot 30 rounds down range, 1st set of loads so I didn't expect them to be super tight. The bolt is scraping really badly on the topside when cycling. 30 rounds and the jeweling is already gone. I figured it was stiff just due to being new and growing pains but it has rubbed that badly. All rounds in mag feed fine now after sanding down the feed rails as someone mentioned in a previous post except the last one. So the first round in the mag is getting hung up but the 3 prior are no longer getting scuffed. As I've said before, this post was not meant to deter anyone from Remington and not to complain. I just wanted to know if the QC problems still persisted and I think I've found the dud. Fingers crossed their CS is spot on cause it's going and I hope I get it back and am nothing but impressed. Here's some pics of the bolt and some more of the original follower/spring. Couldn't see the brass marks on the follower too well in the previous pics but they are visible in these ones. Also found paint marker on the stock that says 12-22 so I'm assuming that was the assembly date or close to it. I haven't bought a new Remington in almost 20 years because of the QC issues before and I had personally had a terrible experience and opted not to do business with them anymore but thought I'd give them a shot again. Too bad this happened, I'm still optimistic they will make this right and I end up with a super nice rifle but buying a brand new rifle with all of this going on right out of the box is giving me a really bad taste especially for being on the top end of their product line they offer. I appreciate all who have replied!! Will update when the process has been completed and I get the rifle back.

Ouch... Where the fun never ends.

Le'me think on an explanation.

Ahhhh ha..., a disgruntled Rem Arm employee pulled it from a defects dumpster and shipped it to a retailer. Just before being released from employment. After all..., it can happen to any manufacturer at any time. Heck, it could happen repetitively.

I had, at one time, thought Rem Arms might be a good solution to the former Remington. But those thoughts faded quite some time ago. Because the excuses never ended.

By the time they finish with your 700, if it's possible for them to manufacture a decent rifle, you for sure should receive one. Good luck!

yeah that bolt looks beat up for only 30 rounds. 12-22 means it's on the new QC.

Whatever you do, send Rem Arm the broken mag follower spring and keep the replacement spring you just purchased.

Ya never know... ya might need it...

They should just end the embarrassment and ship you a new replacement. One that's been inspected by xsn10s before it leaves their factory.

It is definitely unfortunate because I was really excited to give them a try again. I am going to put the old follower I replaced back in and see what they do with everything as a whole. Fingers are crossed they make things right and I end up with a rifle like I started long range on. Miss my old rems, they weren't picky. When I first started loading I had no clue on all the little things I've learned over the years and that rifle didn't care. It just flat out shot everything extremely well, made a bad shot a good one more or less. Next 2 rifles, same exact way and then I got a bad one and the hell I went through with them made me vow never to go back. But here I am lol, forgive and forget. I hope they do the right thing

Yup I'd send it back. I have a 1980's M700 with the jeweling scrapped off like yours. But it's seen a lot of rounds and I don't know what the previous owners did with my rifle.

On a Alpha One I'd expect excellent fit and finish. But yes if a company screws enough it is a detriment. I remember when Glock 23's first came out and frames were delaminating. The first shipment of S&W M&P's sent to LAPD had barrels splitting. Both of those companies rectified their issues on the assembly line and QC. Sig Sauer seems to be beta testing on it's customers and yet they still sell P320's. Some of the bad news is leftist's attack on the firearms industry imo. On my ADL I could live with having to do some work on it. Much like getting a Ruger American or a Savage. But when I first handled my ADL the bolt was smooth and the trigger wasn't awful. My ADL is a 7mm Rem Mag with 1-8" twist 26" long and 5R rifling. I don't expect much in accuracy with it's tupperware stock. But I'll test it out before sinking too much time and money. Like I said earlier I vet my weapons I hunt and carry.

Having stopped 'smithing at the end of 2021, I have seen lots of Rem 700's come through my shop, most for truing and blueprinting, handle realignment and re-barreling. My observations over the years, even with RR serial numbers, they started losing quality in just 2 years when they dropped the cast followers for the pressed steel versions.
The bolt handles started being misaligned about 2017, talking to our distributor here gave no information as to why or warranty issues.
From 2015, actions were good alignment wise, but by 2017/18 they were in need of serious re-working, the lugs were far from even and everything from there needed work to true them up. RR actions from late 2018 were very good from the centreline, somehow the machining was far more precise, but the bolts were horrible, so the majority of my builds had PT&G one piece bolts installed. I had 2 rifles, both SPS 7-08's, that had the centreline of the bore more than .050" off from the outside of the barrel and the chambers were crooked by the same amount…lucky they were being re-barreled anyway.
The best REM 700's that I kept for myself are S serial numbered. Funny thing, I only have 1 blued model, my BDL in 17 REM from 1980.

Cheers.

Just wanted to update this, Rifle has come back from Rem. Got it back a few weeks ago. Got it back out to the range today and rifle functions as it should now and groups were spot on today. Shot 168 Sierra MK and Barnes 168TTSX plus some Barnes TSX 150 grain over some Varget. Pretty impressive groups put up, all were under or just at .5 moa and all were 5 to 8 shot groups. I'm sure it shoots a bit better but user error is always a problem lol. Anyways I am extremely pleased and satisfied with the CS and the handling of the issues!! Thank you to all who have replied

Cool beans glad it worked out. I finally paid off my M700 and need to wait on a picatinny rail to start shooting it.

Did they document exactly what repairs or replacement of parts were done?
