Rem 700 still no go?

I'm making payments on a RAR M700 ADL 7mm Rem Mag 26" 1-8" twist at my LGS. I would had it here but needed to make a few repairs around the house first. Overall it looks good, bolt is smooth, trigger isn't excessive. I'm still deciding on whether to put it in a Magpul Hunter or KRG Bravo. I really wanted a .223 for a cheap long range trainer. But I need a LR elk rifle.
Congrats on working towards the new rifle!! Does yours have an external or internal mag? Just curious to see if your follower looked like mine or if mine was just a fluke.

I bought (3) 700's between 2010 and 2015, all shoot <.75. the Long Range(300 wm) shoots as small as .25, with a hand loads. And (2) wallie world adl's, 7mag shoots .6 with factory and a 243 is .5 with hand loads. Both were put in McMillan stocks. You got a bad follower, ok send to back to them. Imo your making a mtn out of a molehill. Or buff it out and move on.
That rifle as stated was probably a late throw together before closing. Not that that's an excuse for poor qc.
If it doesn't shoot then you have a real reason to complain.
Appreciate the input, did not intend to come off as complaining at all. If you look at the pics I posted and read the post I had already next day aired a new follower and then the spring broke. Not a huge deal at all. New spring is on the way from J&A outdoors, haven't received tracking yet on it. Just curious if the QC issues still persist with Remington is all. I mean if you want to spend 1100 dollars on a rifle and it won't chamber a round from the mag because of a simple issue that was missed or just rushed at the factory to each their own. But if they missed that what else is being over looked before they leave. That's all I was trying to do is gather some info from the quality of others. Not complaining one bit, just putting it out there what my experience was..

I bought a threadded 700 sps tactical/16" last December for under 7 bills, I've not had any issues with it at all- it's an RAR serial number. I havent shot it much, but it will hold at least 1 moa with a few different loads during break in--- I havent started reloading for it yet so I can't tell you what kind of group it will print.

If you look at the detailed descriptions on the remarms web page-- it looks like all the 700s have a 5r barrel ( the description of the ops gun on sportsmans web page serms to go further to say his model is a hammer forged barrel with the hs precision stock/ cerakote/fluted for about 12 bills)-- I'm gonna bet the op's rifle is a "special edition" made for sportsmans warehouse-- rem has done this for years, make "special" rifles for the big box stores....some I know of are Walmart, dicks, sportsmans, academy, basspro/cabelas, etc.

I'll bet the op got one that has a few issues-- this is normal across all mass produced rifles I've seen, heck even some upper tier production rifles like christiansen, Kimber, fierce have gone through qc issues in the past.

What I want to know, is when you contacted remarms about your issues-- how was their customer service?
I didn't contact them about the issues, just ordered a new follower cause I was grabbing some other items as well. Samething with the spring. Simple fixes for sure, by the time I had gone through the trouble of getting it boxed up and sent back I may of ended up not even getting to shoot it cause I work a ton but am currently off for an injury and just want to throw some down range. This question peaks my interest as well though!! I would love to go back to Remingtons but haven't committed just yet

Had some time to spare so thought about setting up another 308 for bench just to take myself back to the start of it all for me. Why not get a Rem 700 which is exactly what I started with when I entered this venture of precision and long range hunting/ shooting. Found a Gen 2 5R at a decent price at Sportsman Warehouse and placed the order. Couple short weeks later and she arrived, while picking up the rifle I decided why not get a new scope as well. All they had I was willing to buy was a NF SHV 5-20-56 SFP. Why not, back to the start of it all so this fit the build perfectly. Got the rifle home, mount the optic, clean the rifle. Whip up some loads and off to the range I go. Well I didn't even shoot the rifle, loaded some rounds into the internal mag and it wouldn't feed. So I drop it down to take a look, the follower was so scored up it literally tore my brass to shreads. I mean it looks like someone hit this thing with 60 grit and left it. Left traces of the brass that got scored on it. So I went home and ordered a different follower for NDA cause I'm bored with nothing to do lol. Follower arrives, I go to remove the OEM and the follower spring snaps right in half with minimal effort removing the follower! Are you freaking serious with this crap. Not a good start but fingers crossed it shoots after this headache. Anyways I have always heard the horror stories with QC with Remington of the newer origin and now see what the fuss is about. Torquing the action screws I found they were over 65 inlbs. They didn't start to back off until almost 90. The list kind of goes on and on, I am still optimistic Remington gets it together and starts to come back from everything. When I started shooting they were the one and only to get, enjoy and build off of. It would be nice to see again! Just thought I'd post this so anyone considering one has a heads up the problems still exist. Best to all!!
Thanks for sharing your experience. That follower looks identical to my pre-bankruptcy 5R followers (never bothered me since I put them in chassis and fed them from AICS mags, but they could have used a good polishing!). I wonder if they're using up old stock?
Would you mind sharing some pics of the jeweled bolt?
Thanks

Figure I'd add these as well showing the RAR on the serial number… and the 1:10 twist.

As it sits it has an internal ADL blind box mag. I'll check the follower at work today. Does all the cycled brass have those scratches? In any case I'd call Remington and give them a chance to make good on the follower and mag spring.

Wow!! I was considering purchasing a new Remington in .243 with a 1-8 twist, but at this point after reading your experience and seeing the photos, I think I will pass at this time.....
I'm hoping this rifle was just a fluke, hoping lots of others chime in and get really positive feed back from the newer ones coming out. Im not biased to one or the other as far as manufacturers go, if they work they work and I always have an open mind when I get something new. Fingers crossed they build the reputation they used to have, I live in CNY about 45 minutes from the Ilion factory and pass it all the time. It would be super nice to see that place hopping again!!!

So does RAR mean pre-bankruptcy? And an RA serial number post-bankruptcy? Does anyone really know?

It appears there can be no certainty about any of the parts and pieces being sold pre- or post-bankruptcy.

Because by numerous accounts, Rem Arms has been using some parts and pieces leftover from the prior Remington company and era of manufacture. Only after the supply of leftover Remington parts have been sold and are gone, will we finally get a chance to see what the new Rem Arms company is manufacturing and selling.

I'm a skeptic. That follower looks like it's been drug down a gravel road behind a vehicle for final finish and polish. A serious lack of QA/QC that any visual inspection at the factory should have caught. Follower springs that snap like a thin sheet of glass. Not very comforting.

Leaves me wondering... How many more excuses are required, and for how much longer, in the effort to deminimize the disappointing consistency of product quality from Rem Arms. This isn't the first example... it's now been years since the Remington bankruptcy.

As far as I know RAR is post bankruptcy. I've see new product lines have trouble in manufacturing plants. It's happened at Glock, S&W, and so on. You have to remember Remington started back up during the pandemic. Getting anyone to work was/ is a challenge. And training new people to assemble/ QC takes time. I don't know how many times I've told people to contact the manufacturer. In the firearms industry that usually works.

And we're still left wondering 🤔

How does contacting a manufacturer help a guy when the mag follower spring snaps in the midst of a hunt? Carrying a brand new new rifle?

This wasn't in the middle of a hunt. And I don't go hunting or carry an unproven weapon.

That works for you... great for you.

You're attempting to communicate that these deficiencies aren't relevant for other purchasers? Good enough for you means good enough for others?

There's a recipe that's bound to cure these ills at Rem Arms. Ignore them. Good enough for xsn10s, good enough for all. Let the consumer identity and correct the factory deficiencies after product purchase...
