Reloader 23?

I only WISH I could shoot out back. That's actually high on the list of things to look for in our future house---isolated with acreage.

I'm blessed. Live on a farm. Have a 400 yd range in my lower field. Presently working on loads and correcting drop tables for 3 barrels. Got a WTO switch lug set up on my rifle for 2 new calibers. Since I'm home bound like everybody else I'm playing. Got loads worked up for a 6.5-06 AI and a 25-284. Gonna revisit the 25-284 and try R 23. Not completely satisfied with the N560 or 4831SC loads and the new long 25 cal bullets.
When I'm done I'll write all this up. It looks like the WTO claims of switching barrels is absolutely correct! Stay tuned.

I was able to get through course seating and powder charge tests on the 300wm this weekend.
So far the results are looking very promising with RL23. 190 ABLR's are printing sub-moa off of a bipod. I have a final seating depth test to complete the workup, which I can hopefully do from the bench. If our ranges open back up soon...
If the test shoots like I think it will, I probably won't bother messing with H4831.

Great to hear Kelso. I'm waiting on a replacement scale before I can load anymore. I'll update my Rl-23 findings once I have something meaningful to add...lol.

very good to hear. I bought this powder mainly with my .270 win in mind but do have a .300 win mag and some yet untested 195 sierra tipped match kings so maybe this'll be the powder for that bullet weight range. Thanks for the feedback.

Sure thing!
I'm working with the H4831 on my .270 right now. Let me know how the RL23 does for you in that one. It may be a good candidate for 23 as well...

I am eager to see your results. I have a Mod 70 30-06AI, RL22 has been very good with 180 and up bullets. RL23 should be a hair better, esp. in the temp. stability dept.

I did a little OCW work today. This load is only beginning development. Charge weight is the only focus right now. I loaded only two rounds at each charge weight of RL-23. My goal was to find the pressure ceiling in my rifle. But RL-23 begins compressing while seating bullets at around 58.5 grains or so. I went all the way to 61.0 grains and figured that was the maximum amount of compression that I felt comfortable with.

I've worked up a couple of 30-06 loads with
I'm in the beginning stages of developing a load in 30/06 with Rl-23. Playing with Rl-19 too, but 23 is far more stable according to the numbers I've seen.

I've worked up a couple of 30-06 loads with RL-23. One with Berger 215gr Hybrids at 2,540 fps, 1/2 MOA in a couple of my rifles. The other with Hornady 212gr ELD-X at 2,580 fps, 1/2 MOA out of a few of my '06s.

Also got great groups, <1/2 MOA, and reasonable speed out of RL-23 in 7mm Rem Mag with both 162gr & 168gr bullets from several rifles. Both loads running 2,980 fps and 2,930 fps respectively.

From my 300 Win Mags with Berger 215gr Hybrids and Berger 230gr Hybrids, RL-23 is pretty anemic even when displaying pressure signs. Great accuracy but, the 215gr Hybrids max due to pressure only hit 2,670 fps and the 230gr max was 2,630fps. About the same speed from all 3 of my 28" barreled rifles, two 8" twist and one 10" twist. Nearly the same with my 26" barreled rifles. I get @ 2,930 fps with 215gr Hybrids in my H1000 loads with most of my 300 Win Mags...

Seems about right. I would think the niche for RL23 in 30 cal. would be 30-06 or AI, in that basic category. No doubt a slower powder like H1000 or RL26 would be right for the 300WM.

When you get his worked out, give us all the information you can. I am a big fan of the 6-5x284 and would like some info on using R-23 and R-26 in it with 140 and 156 Berger's. Thanks in advance.

My gunsmith used 53.2 R23 with a 130 Accubond in his 6.5x284. Muzzle velocity out of 23" barrel was 3,075 IIRC. I know it's not the 140 but it's all the info I have. Good luck!

I love RL23. I have no idea why it's not as popular as RL16 and RL26. I use it in my .284 with 175gr Berger's at 2850FPS from a 26" barrel. It was super easy to find a consistent load in it with RL23. I also used it in my .270 with 140gr bullets and got 2935FPS from a 22" barrel. I had no pressure in either cartridge and reached equal or higher velocity compared to other powders. It's one of my favorites.
Hey Jud can u share your data for the 284 win and the 175 EH? If not public here you can pm. Thanks

I'm using 58.5 grains with the 175 elite in my 7 SAUM. In a 22" barrel I'm only getting 2,780'ish. Going to go up a bit and see if I can bump the velocity a bit.
