Ramshot Grand

300 PRC virgin Lapua brass, Federal Match 215M primers, Hammer HHT 203 grain, Rifle is Christiansen Arms Mesa LR 26" barrel 1:8 twist
1. H1000 burns cleaner than Grand. Grand is cleaner than Hornady Factory ammo.
2. H1000 was a little faster than Grand with the same load.
3. Grand SD and Spread were much better than H1000

I used a digital Lyman powder scale to measure 74 - 76 grain loads in .5 grain increments. I only used exact measurements. If it was +/- 0.1 grain or more I dumped and dispensed again.

Has anyone found data as to where Grand rates on the temp stable chart? FPS vs temp.

Tomorrow I'll be testing Grand and H1000 again with virgin Lapua brass, Federal Match 215M primers and Barnes LRX 200 grain bullets. I'll post my results when I return. I'll redo the Hammer bullets when I get another box in.

As for metering, Grand is a spherical powder while the H1000 is rods. The Grand is smaller and easier to meter for precise loads. (Today I used my Lyman digital to get the load close, then a trickler with Hornady Precise scale that goes to the hundredth.) It was easier to get my loads from exact to 0.04 above. I could have gotten closer but was pressed for time.

New to this forum. Anyone know how I can save this thread to refer back to? Gonna try load up Grand in my 300 WM with 175 Barnes LRX, soon.
I will be impatiently awaiting your results. I bought a jug of Grand for my 300WM and the 175gr LRX. At the moment I'm burning 73gr of H4831 under the LRX for 2966fps and tiny bug hole groups. I'd like a little more velocity tho :)

Years ago, I used H4831 sc with 73 gr for 180 Interbonds in Rem 700 300wm at 2960. It also shot tiny groups.

Similar as before. Started at lower load for the Barnes LRX. Virgin Lapua Brass, Fed Match 215M primers, Barnes LRX 200 grain bullet, seated at 0.050 from lands as recommended. 5 shots each. All groups were good enough for hunting. The last group of 74 grains H1000 was best at 0.81 moa @ 100yds. I will redo the Hammers in the near future.

H1000 could be loaded higher per the bullet manufacturer's load data. Neither had Grand.
Hammer had H1000 to case capacity (compressed).
Barnes had H1000 go up to 77.1 grains
Hodgdon has Grand max load at 81.0 gr for a 200 gr Barnes TTSX.
I plan to load more 203 gr Hammer HHT with Grand starting at 76 gr

Okay, I just got back from the range about an hour ago. I was doing velocity/pressure testing before doing a ladder test (in my mind I'm saving components doing velocity prior to accuracy testing). I shoot 1 bullet at 0.5 grain increments, and utilize my Garmin chronograph for velocity. I'm seating the bullets at factory mag length which is approximately 2.630" CBTO. I am shooting a stock Tikka T3x Lite Veil; no custom gun. I'm using 4x fired Peterson 300 WM Long Brass, Fed 215M primers, and the Barnes 175 LRX.

Hodgdon doesn't have specific reloading data on the Barnes 175gr LRX in 300WM with Ramshot Grand, so I had to make an inference. The CEB Maximus was 82gr max, and the E-Tip was 79.8 grain max, so I split the difference and assumed max was 81grains the Barnes 175 LRX. I decided to start my initial load at 76.0 grains, which is 93.8% of the assumed 81 grain max..... I surprisingly got the smallest ejector mark at 76 grains. I thought maybe it was an anomaly, so I shot 76.5 grains, 77.0 grains, and then 77.5 grains. 76.5 grains and 77.0 grains both slight ejector marks. 77.5 grains had a slight ejector mark, minor case head swipe, what felt like heavier bolt lift (or maybe it was gut feeling that I need to stop going up in charge weight).

What I'm going to do now is assume that 76 grains is the max charge for my setup. I'm going to take the remaining brass, remove the bullets and powder, then recharge them starting at 74.0 grains, and work up in 0.5 grain increments until I get to 76.0 grains.

What was surprising to me is that velocity was pretty high and the SD was only 22.3 fps across a 1.5 grain difference. I know the sample size was very small, but I was kinda surprised by that. Also, shots from 76gr, 76.5gr, and 77.0 grain produced a 0.8 MOA group at 100yds. Again... small sample size. However, these numbers give me high hopes for the rest of my testing. I couldn't get back out there today, because my range is heading into winter hours and doesn't allow shooting past 5:30pm, so hopefully in the next week I can have some set-in-stone data to present you.

H4831SC was the very first powder I tried for my 300wm with 175 LRXs. I was getting about 2984 fps, about 2 grains off max load, and shooting nice groups, about 0.75 MOA. Then I bought 2 pounds from a different lot, got horrific accuracy, and was getting about 100 to 150fps less velocity. No idea what happened. I called Hodgdon and they said I was the only person with a concern about that lot of powder. I was told that it is not uncommon to have 50 to 200 fps difference between lots. I tried a few different ways of trying to get the load to work, but had absolutely no luck. Idk how I can go from 0.5-0.75 MOA groups to 1.50 MOA groups, and decrease about 150 fps with a single lot change. It was super frustrating, especially since I was trying to get ready for my Africa trip. So.... I tried N565. I had good SD's (less than 10) and good accuracy (probably 0.75 to 1 moa). However, at a max charge, I was only at ~2780fps and I was hoping to get more velocity out of that, so that's why I'm trying Grand. Nonetheless, N565 worked very well and got the job done in Africa!
