R700 LA magnum bolt face. What should I chamber it in?

I get the impression you are not a handloader. Correct? If so HSM has some ammo all set with Berger VLDs. I witnessed a guy shooting their 7 Rem mag ammo and it was very accurate in his factory rifle.

Naturally if you handload there are many options for LR bullets.

I have only loaded about 30 bullets for my 243. Before that I did order hsm ammo. I'm all ears when it comes to this stuff. I'm new at this and just being a sponge while trying

Thanks. I'll have to start with a barrel first though. First things first though is taking my brand new stiller w/ broughton barrel to the range.

if you want smaller than a 7mm and on a long action, I think that the .270 WSM would be sweet. You could load your bullets long and take advantage of the efficient case design.

If you go for a big case-small bullet diameter remember that you will cook barrels a lot faster.

If you really want my opinion... why not the 7??? .284 win through 7 STW are hammers with more than enough for long range deer, but not too much.

If you don't go .257 Wby, you could always go 7RM, 6.5 STW or 7 STW...

Like mentioned, they are long range hammers on deer.

I have a .257 Wby, a couple 7RM's and a 7 STW...They're perfect deer rounds if you have the right bullets and use them within their respective boundaries and distance limitations.

6.5 WSM would be my suggestion.

The brass will be more consistant in 270 WSM than in any belted case. That is part of the reason for beltless magnums.

You could shoot 85 gr Sierra hollow points to 160 grs Woodleighs.
You will have access to the best target bullets above 6mm. 142, 140, 123, 120 and 107 Matchkings! 130 and 140 Bergers including Hybrids! 107, 123 and 140 Lapuas! You will not find a better selecion of target bullets.
I shoot 30 to 33 gr of Accurate 5744 in back of 85 gr at 3650-2850 fps and no recoil at tin cans and squirrels.

I like 140 Hybrids at a pedestrian 3030 fps at 600 benchrest.

130 Accubonds can easily go 3250-3290 fps with Retumb, o.

I make 160 gr Woodleighs go 2800 fps with VV N-570. Just like a .280 Ackley except with a higher BC and greater penetration.
140 gr Bergers or Hornady A-Max with BCs in the .600s.

130 Accubonds can easily go 3250-3290 fps with Retumbo.

The Ballistic Coefficients of the 6.5 Bullets cannot be beat with .25 or .270 bullets. These are the best long rangendeer rifle bullets. Only the 6mm bullets can rival them in BC.
