what should i build?

5-8 hundred bucks...you can get a nice piece of glass for that. Leupold is nice and there are several that would fit for your application. I personally have two MK4s. I will be upgrading to Nightforce soon though.

Check-out Sightron too. Four of my friends use them. They are great.

Sightron 6-24x50 SIII 30mm Riflescope

I checked the SWFA website because I knew I could find this link quickly. I know you can find this particular scope for less than listed.

thanks i like the mk4 with illuminated mill dots.

remember im new to this stuff so you dont have to answer but say i get the 6.5x284 and when the barrel starts to go i want something diffrent what is it i have to go through say to make it a 7mm mag. barrel is obveous lol.

i have leup scopes . but vortex have been given good review. i am going to try the 6.5-20X42. i have two 6.5-284s. i really like them . get some lapua brass and h-4350 you will love it. the savage barrel is an easy change but you have to go to that site . 6mmbr.com has loading info . on benchrest.com there are a bunch of threads on the savage f-class 6.5-284 and what a great rifle it is.

I have surgeon 1086 long action with a sendero contour Lilja at 26 in. long in a Mc Bros. A-5 chambered 6.5-284 (.297 neck) Nightforce 30mm rings VX 3 6.5-20 LR I think I have 3500$ in it.
My load is probly not the most common. Lapua brass br-2 primer. 57 gr. retumbo with 140 berger seated .005 off lands. shoots one clover leaf hole when i do my part... off a bipod and rear bag. have not put it on sand yet. My wife took it out to 935 yards the other day and hit 3 shots on a steel plate . Group was about 7 inches. it has 200 plus round thru it. Its a mild load as far as velocity. I hope she goes 2000 round for me. If it never stops shooting 3/4 moa at a 1K ill never rebarrel.

If you go with the Savage, rebarreling you could do yourself or have a gunsmith do it for you.

If you go with Remington, you will almost certainly have to get a gunsmith to do the work.

In both cases you will have to deal with whether or not the bolt-face is the right size for the new cartridge. If it's not, it can be changed/modified to accomodate the new cartridge.

cost....Barrel ~$300, gunsmith to do the work ~$300

thanks for all the great advice. that sounds pretty simple

Sounds easy. Haven't even discussed contour, rate of twist, length, flutes, muzzle brake.....

well if i changed it i want to stick around a heavy barrel, fluited or whatever. and around 9-10 for twist, 30"ish inch. and never had a muzzle break on any of my guns so idk.
