There should be a requirement that all kids capable of doing so spend 2 years either in the US Military or working in the 3rd world for something like "The Peace Corps", after quitting or graduating HS.Here's one i like
The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary
All the young people want what we have without ever getting one blister or creating some sweaty armpits. They need to run one of those kerosene heater we used in the 80's and early 90's cause we couldnt afford to put in a new furnace. Or window air conditioners....and be dam glad to have one.
I have said this for years. Along with no one should commander in chief of a military in which they never served. There should be a requirement that all kids capable of doing so spend 2 years either in the US Military or working in the 3rd world for something like "The Peace Corps", after quitting or graduating HS.
Working for the Forest Service fighting wildfires would also be a good alternative for service.
We've become horribly fat, lazy, and complacent in this country and as a result we now have millions of young folks that think they are entitled to whatever they want with no effort.
I can think of one very good exception to the rule. Ronald Reagan who was a great CinC.I have said this for years. Along with no one should commander in chief of a military in which they never served.
Ronald Reagan was in the Army Reserves in 1937 and activated in 1942. He served on restricted duty due to bad eyesight, but he did serve, and yes he had good advisors and listened to them.I can think of one very good exception to the rule. Ronald Reagan who was a great CinC.
What the personally lacked in experience he more than made up for in picking the right advisors to fill the Joint Chiefs of Staff positions and National Security Advisor.
Technically true but he got his training via correspondence courses and was awarded a commission so he could serve in an Army Motion picture unit. After moving to CA he was assigned to a clerk position at the port then in 43 promoted and sent back to the Motion Picture unit for the rest of his service. Due to his poor eyesight he could not serve overseas.Ronald Reagan was in the Army Reserves in 1937 and activated in 1942. That true, but closer to service than any we elected in several years. I know that I would make a very bad florist, because all I know about flowers is how to smell them or mow them down by accident. My apologies to the OP if I sidetracked this thread.Technically true but he got his training via correspondence courses and was awarded a commission so he could serve in an Army Motion picture unit. I didn't think that was the kind of service we were discussing but again, you're technically correct.
Yep but then Trump never served at all and I'd argue he was an excellent CinC for the same reasons, he appointed the right advisors, listened to what they said and then acted in what he thought to be the best interests of the country. That true, but closer to service than any we elected in several years. Thanks for all that have responded to this post. This is my family that I get to enjoy.Having survived acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (with an overall survival rate of 20 percent) I like to tell people that no matter how bad it may seem in the situation you are in, Every day is a good day.
Just passed my five year mark. My stem cell transplant team told me I was cured at the 2.5 year mark. It was a tough experience that I don't wish upon my worst enemy. By God's grace I am still here with my wife and seven children. Every day is a good day.
