Phrases to Live by

This guy was complaining about his wife and I mean running her down. This older and wise gentleman walks by without missing a beat and says "you picked her what does that say about you"

It got real quiet after that
A few years post divorce, my GF at the time comments to me, "you don't have a very good picker." Without missing a beat, I retorted, "that doesn't bode well for you, does it?" She ascribed to the self-indulgent (possibly narcissist) theory, "I'm OK, you're not."
I assure you that DEFINITELY WAS NOT MINE. Respectfully, I think we should just move on and continue with the OP's subject matter. 😉
These days, it's hard to say much about current events without someone calling you racist / bigoted / sexist / classist, etc.

"Best to keep ones mouth shut then to open it and remove all doubt" Thomas Jefferson
The specific wording of that quote is most commonly credited to Mark Twain, though it is a witty paraphrase of one that has been around at least two millennia before he was born.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
Proverbs 17:28, KJV

If a lie is only printed often enough, it becomes a quasi-truth, and if such a truth is repeated often enough, it becomes an article of belief, a dogma, and men will die for it.

The Crown of a Life
(1869) by Isa Blagden.

Similar statements are attributed to many others but I think it originated here from what I found many years ago. This also basis for propaganda "illusion of truth" that is widely in use today on all forms of media to "sway" people without basis of fact.

Gee, sound familiar?
