........I have a new Winchester model 70 Coyote Light in 243. I bought it for shooting coyotes....100 grain boat tail soft points......My question is...is this a suitable wolf round?.....I told my wife that a wolf hunt was in my future and she said go for it. That's kinda like giving me permission to buy a new gun if I twist it around just a little!....The only thing there is that the ballistic coefficient of .257 bullets is not impressive. What are your thoughts?
The odds on killing a wolf are almost, as good as some carnival games. So generally I'd say get the rifle you want.
If you're hunting someplace where bait is allowed, then there may be an element of "control", and the ability to specify a distance (stand to bait) could be used to decide if one cartridge combo might have an edge.
I've looked at some hunts in Canada, and most bait sets are 200-300 yards.
It does make me chuckle given you've tagged yourself "elmerkeithclone", and considering 6mm, and , 257's.
I think a good 7mm magnum would be tough to beat.
Good Luck!
