Opinions on this picture

A picture was posted of one in that was killed in Maryland. Looked very much like a big healthy german shepard in size and color but it was definitely a coyote.

Hey guys! I'm definitely not a diehard coyote hunter.....only killed a couple because the opportunities presented themselves, but I've never seen a coyote that looked quite like this one. A buddy of mine sent me this picture taken on his farm recently. Any cross-breeding with a domestic dog possibly present here?

That does look like the coat of a German Shepard, but seems to have a head like a coyote. I was reading about such things a while back and understand that it can happen but tends to be a rare occurance. I don't know exactly why something about when coyotes come in heat VS when domestic dogs come in heat. Coyotes should be breeding soon if not now, so female vocalization calls should work in the early spring.

Looks like a coyote to me

Well Harvey......your opinion does matter here....but being obstinate in making a decision does not help........lol.....

Thanks, I think. The thing about a brown bear is they are dangerous animals and in a close in situation your life could depend on it. Actually the world record polar bear was killed with a 7mm mag!! As I understand the story, the hunter shot it multiple times and the bear charged him and the 17th shot was point blank and the bear fell at his feet. I read the story and it was many years ago. I have a .338 Lapua AI and a 300 Norma mag AI and I love the .284 and I absolutely have no doubt that it would take a brown bear but I hope to go brown bear hunting someday soon and I'll be taking my .338. I took a 3,000 pound water Buffalo last spring in Argentina with the .284. I put two shots through his shoulder and out his lungs so I know it would do the deal but what if I wounded him and he changed. I'd definitely want the .338.

Happy Hunting!!

So...Harvey....how did the coyote turn into a brown bear....
Man....are you hitting the sauce early in the day......lol....
Have a good one.....

So sorry wrong tread!! Haha actually I've never taken a drink in my life. I've shot lots of coyotes in my life but I've never seen one like that but I've seen pictures just like that one. This guy was asking what to take on a brown bear hunt, a 7 mm mag or a 30-06, he has both or should he get something heavier. So you seen what my advice was to him. What do you coyote hunt with? Primos is supposedly coming out with a new call and decoy that you can set right on the call that really sounds great. It was supposed to be our this month but not their saying fall. What do you use to call with?

Sorry again.

Only killed a couple in all the years hunting....one with 7rm at 100 yards....the other whatever gun I had...dont recall....havent ever called any yotes....like to try someday...but time and other things get in the way.....
Killed a couple porcupines....shot one in an apple tree wih my bow..kind of funny it stuck to the tree....until i wanted my arrow back...abother shot with a rubber blunt in the head....the head actually exploded off the neck....needless to say....it didn't go far.......
Found some dead yotes...someone beat me to them.....

Looks like a beautiful healthy coyote. No domestication standing out to me. Just a good looking dog. Truly a "trophy" if you're into that.
