Old Bullets OK

I used to reload 30-30 for several people and for saddle guns at the ranch and had purchased 7 boxes of Sierra 150 RN. I still have 2 and change, so when I bought my 300 Weatherby four years ago I decided to use them for barrel break in and scope zero. They were not pretty! The results were astounding. After 2 to scope zero the remaining 18 made a hole 5/16ths high and .7 wide...my 91 year old step dad said "I suppose you're going to sell that one quick?" I decided to tumble the rest of the box and shoot another 20 to complete the break in I use and the subsequent group was slightly smaller. I really don't know if the polished bullets did better, but I used the third box on a mule deer at 398 yards, dead in his tracks. I used Federal 215M primers, 75.0 gr IMR 4350 and seated to 3.558" that is the max that feeds through the gun. I like Nosler partitions, and tried that next with Almost the same result. Old bullets shot by old guys works fine!

You could call Nosler for info, send them the photo.
I beg to differ that older bullets are not as accurate. All the rage now is VLD this and VLD that. I used to shoot an 06 with 180 gr round nose bullets in the 80s and it was a quarter inch shooter! Check Benchrest records from the 50's and 60's, they were shooting sub .10 groups back then.

We all know how opinions are don't we?

I got some old bullets in a trade; including some 270 130,150 and 160 gr Nosler Partitions. I have used Partition bullets for years for years but wonder if they (or any bullets degrade over years).I have never seen a Nosler Partition box that looks like these.
What say you guys?
Load away! I'm using 270 150 gr SPBT...that are 43 years old....

I'd have send them to me so I could dispose of them for you but I reside in California. :(:(

I bought 10 boxes of 100 Hornady 22 Cal. 53 gr match H.P.s in the late 1970s and still have 8 of them. I also live in California and this year I cannot sell OR give them away without breaking the law. With 5.56 loaded ammo so cheap there isn't much sense to reload them.
I guess I will have to wait until Calif has a "buy back" program for components (snort)..

Edited to correct the help I got from "spell check"

Not that it matters, but I'm a week away from 76 and I still work - and there's lots of moving parts. Why wouldn't a bullet still work!!! LOTFL
Wait until you are 80 and then there are some of those "lots of moving parts" that don't work as well.
I guess we may have side tracked this thread so I will shut up.

The comparison isn't older bullets but older designed Partitions. The old turned jacket Partitions are not as accurate as the newer swaged smooth jacket Partitions.

If lived in Kalifornia, don't believe I'd tell anyone...lol The 'sunshine state has really went down hill.
