In America, the left doubled down on their hatred of Old America and decided that they were going to go full global socialist.

What happened to the Soviet Union was not a popular revolution, is was a degradation of the union between the communist party, member states, oligarchs and lawmakers. Russia decided....horse crap. The "opening" was leadership's attempt at maintaining cohesive continuity.

Please, do not ever compare our culture, history and politics to pretty much anyone else. We have our problems, but we aren't killing millions via hunger, working camps, prisons or execution.

You can dislike the way I boiled down the issue, or argue the particulars of the "party" or "soviet control". same difference. People eventually become disillusioned with totalitarian government once the brainwashing wears thin.
