I have used pretty everything from the old standby Partition to the BT's and the Barnes product. For the last 10 years or so all of my rifles pretty much use the SMK's for competition and in the field. The 250 SMK has killed more feral hogs than I can remember out of my 338 Lapua's. The 150 in my Warp 7 and the 155 in the WSM have performed perfectly on game there are others as well but you get the idea.
The 250 SMK is a very tough bullet and the base of the jacket is the same as the GK version with the front jacket being about 35% thinner and the lead composition of the core being the same as the 250 GK. Always get a chuckle out of these threads because EVERYBODY put the shot exactly where it was supposed to go and the Stinking Bullet Failed lol!!!!
Put the bullet where it belongs and it will die period---at least on the thin skinned North American game animals I have shot. The big feral hogs are just about as tough as they come and the round that I have killed the most with is FMJ 55gr PMC Ball out of my SR15!! Just jump them in a stock tank and put a round (50 to 60yds) low and behind the shoulder where there is no armor so to speak and it will poof the lungs! Never had one run more than 75 yards when hit that way. Have hit one running at 300 with a 338 Slowpoke (improved Lapua) 250 SMK MV 3040 and hit square in the middle of the shoulder. The sow about 400lbs ran about 150 yards before giving up-----when we found her as often happens there was no visible entrance wound so we rolled her over and there was a hole the size of a softball on the opposite shoulder and no I am not embellishing!
It is where you hit them not what you hit them with. Now if you have to take a marginal shot say a 425 point bull elk running away at 150 yards and all you have is butt to shoot at then a 250 gr 338 SMK is better than a 180 gr out of a 300 WSM any day IMHO.
