New 6.5 saum is a keeper

OK so I got my reamer yesterday from grizzly ind. The differences were all in the neck and throat area of the chamber. I uploaded the info I got from PTG in PDF form. The reamer I have is the 6.5 GAP 4S as I understand and have read elsewhere this will not require as much neck turning after sizing and also has a shorter lead and throat than the old GAP reamer. So all of this aside now I have a big question which gun do I build on? I have a Remington Model 7 in 7mm SAUM Blued CM and a Remington 700 in 270 WSM SS. I think the model 7 would be awesome but the stock choices are limited. What do you guys think. Also I am new to this forum thing so let me know if you feel I am Highjacking your thread and I'll start a new one, it just seems to be the logical place to ask questions about this round.

New Proto-type 6.5 SAUM brass from Hornady. I got a handfull to test and run thru the paces. Here is what I figured out so far...

h2O capacity is 72.5 and the new cases weigh average of 230.75 with 1.2 GN difference.

My Rem. 7saum weigh average of 219.6 with a 3.7 GN difference.

The new brass is far more consistent !

Necks, case weight, and run out is excellent ! Shoot the crap outta them and see how they hold up. Will post more as it goes.

That's great news on the proto type 6.5 SAUM brass. Thanks for sharing Sendero Man. Please post your results regarding the brass durability.

been very pleased !!

Prototype brass is running great, very consistent!

Necks are .0145 already, run out is .0005 to .001, very consistent weights... Load it and go

started at 57.5 and have gone up. Will be shooting 59 and 59.5 today.

I've been reading a whole lot about this cartridge lately. I really think you guys talked me into building one  My only question is has anyone tried the 160gr Matrix. The BC is ridiculous. It seems like an awesome fit for the cartridge, but I'm not an expert by any means.

Well I finally Finished my gun Last week and it is looking really promising. I have never had a gun shoot a group this good in the first ten rounds. I just loaded what everyone else was loading in theirs and my gun loves it. This thing is so much fun to shoot. Specs are as follows
McMillan Game scout stock
Rem 700 SA receiver trued and bolt lapped in
Fluted Bartlein 1-8.5 twist 26" long
I used the 6.5 Gap 4S reamer with the .298 neck (I don't turn the necks down after sizing rem 7mm SAUM brass But I do have to trim them)
I am using Whidden Dies
the load is 62 grains of H1000 behind 130 grain Berger hunting VLD's
The velocity is 3180 on average
The three shot group was bullet 6,7,and 8 Crazy
I love this gun

Yup, you will love the thing. Just as someone else said, it's almost like cheating.
But, hey, I can live with that.
Every time I take mine out, I just laugh---it's a hoot to shoot.
Looking forward to the brass.

Sendero man what is the neck diameter on the hornady brass? The reason I ask is the neck in my chamber is .298 and I know there is a different neck diameter out there on some of the first guns that GAP built I think their necks were smaller so you had to turn your necks down. The reamer I used they called it the (no turn neck) or NTN on grizzlies website.

Oh and have you worn the brass out yet :D

Full production brass is doing good.

6 loadings on each piece so far. 7th loaded and ready to go.

I'm running 59 of 7977 with 143 ELD-x and 59.5 of 7977 with 140 JLK.

Good news on the Hornady production brass. When my stash of Remmy brass has died I'll be calling GAP for some factory goodness!
