New 6.5 saum is a keeper

The reason behind the fact that LRI isn't doing the 6.5 saum any more is that there customers were getting into a lot more brass work and prep (according to LRI'S post's) than most to deal with or are willing to deal with, that is why they aren't recommending it any more. The 6.5 saum is pretty dam nice and isn't to hard to deal with as far as brass is concerned, just takes an extra hour to turn the necks and your done.... with brass life so dang good you wont have to do it very often plus your getting the necks as concentric as they can get in the process.

Thanks for replying. I tried to find the post I read but I am away from home and it isn't the same on your phone.

The brass work can be a little tedious but it's certainly not awful. I've worked on other wildcats that were significantly harder.

The 'problems' encountered by LRI clients will go away when the new brass is delivered after testing. There will also be another source for brass when Remington gets off it's butt and releases brass to the public.

Regards.

I'm new to this whole forum thing so forgive me if I am out of line with this question but where would I find reamer specs on said 6.5 SAUM? See I build my own guns and have been looking at building this very rifle for some time now and all I have found is a reamer and head space gauges on Midway for a 6.5 by 300SAUM would this be the same reamer specs or no?

Yes PTG has three reamers that in my mind should all be the same. They are labeled as follows
6.5mm GAP 4S - 6.5mm GAP 4S (6.5 x 300 RSAUM) and the last is 6.5mm RSAUM
whats the difference and what head space gauges would you use? I emailed PTG this question last week and they still have not responded. I would think they were all pretty much the same and you could just use the 7mm-300 SAUM head space gauges but I don't want to find out the hard way. I guess I'll keep after PTG until I get an answer

The only difference between the reamers are neck diameter and throat length. The go gauge will be the same no matter what saum caliber you are building. I wouldn't wait for them to email you back because it probably won't happen. Call them and they can email you prints of what they have or you can have them build any neck and throat length you want.

Per George Gardner at GA Precision.

Because the Reamer change seems to have a lot of guy's concerned I thought I would measure different bullets to the lands in both chambers for everyone so everyone can understand the need for the change.
Measurements are COAL to the lands
