I have 2 loads for the 30-375R.

77.7 gr H-1000, Fed 215M, 240 SMK at 2925 fps which I don't use much anymore. This is at mag length in AI mags to be used as a repeater and was my original load.

79.5 gr Retumbo, same primers, Berger 230 hybrid at 2960 fps, 3.770 OACL. I'm having to single load it to get close to the lands since the rifle is throated for the 240SMK.

Those are excellent numbers for the powder charges. Can't wait to see this thing get kicked off. I'm really interested now. That is about where I would like to be with a heavy 30 bullet. Great stuff!

I just ran some numbers for my hunting conditions here in PA. It would be a legitimate 1400yd deer rifle. That is farther than I could probably get here in PA. It would be about the limit due to the woods depending on where I was set up.

Yes it is a 30" 9 twist barrel. I have approx 1500 rounds through this barrel now.

I'm exited for you that your 30-375R project is nearing completion!!! I'm sure you will be very happy with that rifle/cartridge combo.

After this last weekend I've decided to stay with 30-375R. The cartridge just flat out works well. Less powder and recoil than the 338's too.

Well, I finally got the rifle back from the smith tonight and it looks GREAT minus the melonite on the barrel. (looks a little two tone right now). That's the good news, the bad news is I have to leave for utah for a week on Thurs. and I would rather shoot; darn it! I did fire form one case tonight and it looks pretty mean. Kind of like my 6.5 Sherman on steroids. The case holds 95.4 grs. H2O. I had PLENTY of length after fire forming so trimming to equal lengths will be no problem. I am going to try to send a few down range tomorrow if I get any time at all but I still have to take my truck to the body shop following my "early season hunt in Montana" Will try to post something tomorrow.......Rich

Hey rich, can you give me some feasible estimate of the water capacity of the 7LRM that im getting in a month or so? if the previous guy is getting 2960 fps with 230gr bergers and retumbo out of his 30/375 then whats your estimate of what i can REALISTICALLY get with retumbo in the 7lrm with the new 195 EOL berger hybrids out of a 27" barrel? Im thinking around 3000fps but I value your opinion so please chime in.

On a side note I want to send you 1-2 pieces of the new 7lrm brass to see how easy it is to size and form in your chamber to see if I want to do your design or to make it easier for future people to chamber your cartridge. best of luck and let me know.

Hi Midnight......I think your LRM will be right near 94grs. +or -. Depending on how they have it throated, 3000' might be a bit optimistic but I would think 2950' ish. You should be able to use Dakota data and come very close......Rich

I thought about this a little more and without knowing the specs on the LRM there is no way to know exactly, but I think the capacity is more likely 93 grains......Rich

I'm 700 miles from my build in Salt Lake and having withdrawals but I did manage to fire form some brass and send 9 rounds down the tube before I left. I didn't chrono anything but just wanted to go thru the forming and break in process. Fire forming was easy as the brass was so close to dimension after running thru the dies and there was little shrinkage in length in most cases. There is plenty of brass to work with both in trimming to length and turning necks.
I tried my gunsmiths break in technique which seemed to work very well. The following is the process: Fire one round then clean thoroughly with bore tech, dry patch then clean with alcohol, one patch with Remoil, two dry patches, fire again. Repeat this process until copper fouling is minimal. After five rounds the fouling was greatly reduced so I then fired four rounds to determine max load for Retumbo with a 215 hybrid. This turned out to be 81 grains. I found the BAT action to be a little different than what I am used to. By the time you get any bolt stiffness, you have blown a primer. At least I hope this was the action and not a function of the brass quality? I then cleaned again and found little copper fouling. Looks like a pretty smooth bore!
Recoil was really mild with the 4 port muscle break but I did notice bark flying off the trees to the side of my rest.
First impression of the 8x32 SIII was really good. It has a 1/8th moa dot which is the first dot I've used. It is the 2 moa scope which I think will be pretty useful.
I'm chomping at the bit to get back and do some serious testing. More later.....Rich
