New 30/375 wildcat

elkaholic,
I will be honest and state that I did not take the time to read all 19 pages of this thread.
Can you tell me the status of your design, and what benefits have you come up with over the 300 JAZZ(300 NM AI) which gives you a neck length of at least .320+ and velocity of 3000+ w/ 210 bergers. All in a COAL of 3.55 or less( standard mag length) and can be done on a .700 bolt with top quality brass.
If you have come up with something better I might be in the market for a 30cal, as I sold mine a few years back after major shoulder surgury.

Thought I would post a follow up to make sure there was no reading between the lines on my last post.

My question was sincere concerning your design. If you have come up with a better" mouse trap", I am interested.
I know it takes alot of effort to go thru the process of coming up with a design on a caliber, as I have done it myself, and give you kudos to you for it.

At present, I do not have a 30cal in the stable, and am thinking of doing one.
I do not know of a more efficient case design for the 30cal w/210-240 bullet weights than the 300 JAZZ.
If your design is better, I am open minded enough to take a look at it.
I have not posted much lately on LRH as I have been busy running field trials w/ my retreivers, and have not followed the new designs lately, so just asking for an update.
Thanks.

Good question.....I guess better or worse depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I wanted something with a little more pop than the 300 WM on a beltless case and relatively cheap, available brass. The 30/375 accomplishes that with approx. 95 grain case capacity. The Norma is a fine cartridge for sure and will no doubt get even more velocity with the approx. 105 capacity. I guess for me, I didn't want that much capacity, and there is also the Rigby sized bolt face and spendy brass, albeit, probably better brass than Hornady. I am quite sure that I can reach 3100' with a 215 gr. bullet with my chamber design (throating). Again, if velocity is the game, the Norma would probably be a better choice as would quality of brass. I'm thinking that the 375 Ruger (Hornady) brass may be better than some of Hornadys earlier stuff though. I went with the Ruger because I went thru 3, 300 Rum barrels pretty fast and was tired of the marginal increase in velocity for the price paid all around. The Norma capacity isn't all that much less than the RUM. I personally believe that 95 grs. is just about right for the 30 caliber and I like the 40 degree shoulder and minimal body taper as well as a longer neck than some. This should be a nice and easy conversion for a lot of 300 WM's for those so inclined as well. My build should be done this week so I should have some REAL data before too long.....Rich

Can't wait to see what you come up with Rich, I know a someone who has a WBY Vanguard that I have not gotten my hands on yet that really needs to be re-barreled from a miserable 300 WBY to something better. I'll be able to thread metric soon too :D

Hi guys,

A couple FYI's I wanted to share...

I had the barrel on my 6x47L Melonited last year about this time. There is only .007" of throat erosion in 1350 rounds!!! Cleans very easy. Truth be told I had been using a unreliable chrono to determine velocity with the last 3 barrels but this barrel with the melonite gave higher velocity compared to my last barrel with the same load??? Supposedly the norm would be to put more powder in to achieve the same velocity with a Melonited barrel compared to unmelonited.

Goods news for 30-375R fans. I won a extreme long range match last weekend with mine.!!! I even hit the 2356Y steel.

It's the little cartridge that could.

Thanks for the info Gunman. That is good news all around......Rich

A "mini update" on my build. I stopped by the smith to drop off the trigger guard and check on progress. He was all done except for a little bedding so I should get the rifle very soon. Here is some good news on components. The BAT action was perfectly square including the bolt face. I guess I could have expected that. The Krieger barrel was even better than expected. He said it was within .001" end to end for straightness AND concentricity! Also stated that the scope showed that they didn't have to do an excessive amount of lapping. The muscle break was one of the best he's seen for threads and concentricity. I'm hoping all this adds up to a REALLY good shooter! Bad news is I will probably get it just before I'm out of town for a week:rolleyes: He also said my partly formed case fit snugly in the chamber so it looks like the dies are adjusted well for final fire forming. More later........Rich

With which cartridge? The 30-375R or the 6x47L?

The ELR match was won with the 30-375R.

The regular match which is from 310Y to 1080Y max I also won with the 6x47L.

Great weekends like this don't happen often but I'll take it!

I'll say, good job. What is your load data if you don't mind sharing? Might help elkaholic out in load development.
