The worst case of bullet weld I had was 338 mag with heavy neck tension. Cases cleaned in corn cob media. They were so tight they couldnt be pulled with my collet puller. When i seated them deeper to break the weld there was a distinct pop and the bullets had rings in them from the seating die. Since then ive used a mandrel and Lee case lube in the necks and no issues. I crimp in some cases as needed

After I cut the neck in half I had to pull the brass off the bullet. I don't recall needing any tools just some moderate force.

So are those theoretically dangerous to shoot? I'd think that the case expansion would break any bond when you fired it.

The OP mentioned "cold weld", which is my primary concern, as I don't shoot-up my hunting loads very fast!

I am very impressed though with the reduction/degree of seating variance! That is an issue that always concerns me…..and I'd like to minimize! memtb

This was factory loaded ammunition from a premium brand. I don't know the age. I bought if off a person online.

I contacted the manufacturer and they said it was safe to shoot.

Old wives tale. Cold weld takes 10s of thousands psi of pressure. What somepeople see is a chemical reaction that makes pulling the bullet harder after a certain amount of time. I have never seen it affect accuracy myself.

I thought that most everyone knew that it was a form of electrolysis (reaction between dissimilar metals) or a chemical reaction that created the weld, which is in reality …..not a weld! It is just incorrect terminology…..much like Cresent Wrench used for any number of different manufacturers adjustable end wrenches. memtb

What do y'all use lubricating the inside of the neck or the mandrel for mandrel neck tension?

I've been using one of these since the '70's, filled with graphite powder! I've been fairly pleased with it's performance!

I think that some of my variance "may" be from using compressed loading. Of course…..I could be dead wrong! memtb

With recoil like that, he should be crimping those.

Another reason that I really liked Barnes Bullets when I switched over from cup and core bullets. The recoil was severely flattening the exposed lead tips badly! If I were to run the magazine empty, by the time I got to the last round, the tip was flat and approximately 1/8" or greater across the tip! Those monos, eliminated that issue, memtb
