My 338 Sherman Shortmag

there was one fella shooting 235s his load was 66 gr Varget I believe.
If you go to Sherman wild cats check out the 338 SS there is load data complied there for you to check out.
Any of my loads I fire formed at 56 gr of Varget. My 250 Berger load I started at 57gr went to pressure. My 230 load I started at 58 worked up.
I believe Steve from Hammer did load work with the 338 SS so he may have more info for you as well.

A little late to the party but Steve at Hammer did my load work for my 338SS with 236 grain Hammer Hunters and 66 grains Varget 3.235" COAL this was in a long action

I spoke to Steve at Hammer about these bullets. Apparently they are not the regular Hammer Hunters that are listed on the site. They have a new longer nose.

I've ordered some of these along with the 213's (which also have the longer nose) to play with.

Last day of fire forming my first 100 cases.

Put 50 rounds into a 1 MOA group on day one, during barrel break in and cleanings. Loaded a different bullet and fired a bunch more today. I got a little tighter group. So for my last 15 rounds I shot separate groups and played with the scope tracking a little bit.... I was getting bored. So there was a single shot and then move the scope for the remainder of the group.... I wasnt really testing anything specific... just bored. But I think this gun will be a shooter.

Then I had some company in the range. This was a pretty serious tease. But we are within city limits, so smacking anything on the range is prohibited. But with the distraction and delay in proceedings I moved the scope the wrong way. Otherwise I think my zero would have been dead nuts

With out reading a bunch of previous post what bullets was that with . looks to be a good shooter !! I have some 270s that I will play with in next week or 2 if weather holds up but they are long I am hoping to get 2750 or better or they wont be worth the effort. I get almost 2900 with 230s 2830 with 250s so this should be doable I hope .

Targets pics are from the Berger 250. Shot the Hornady 230eldm the day before.
These were all just fireforming loads, but velocity was between 2400 and 2500fps with only 52grains of Varget, and this with a 22" barrel, throated an additional 0.100".

My 10 year old daughter used the 338SS for its first kill she got a 8 point whitetail yesterday those 236 grain hammers really performed. He walked out at 125 yards and she dropped him right in his tracks. I know it's a little overkill but she pretty much claimed my rifle :( as her own:)

Well I got out today run pressure on the 270 ELDX I was kinda disappointed with results not sure if I will pursue this any more.
I started at 15 thou off
57.5=2639
58=2650
59=2668
59.5= 2684 slight bolt lift
60=2694 slight bolt lift
60.5= 2708 heavy bolt lift
I ran 2 charges @ 40 thou off like my 230s
57.5=2606
58=2624
As you can see seating slowed down and I may not hit pressure as quick but won't be able to get the 2700 mark that I would desire.
That being said the 250VLD @2835 and the 230 ELDX @2885 is pretty impressive for this little round. I'll have to run numbers later but I don't think 2650-2675 is going to be good enough to switch.

Testing is a good thing, even though the results may not always be desired. I'm finally going to get back to mine and want to try out some 225 ttsx. It's now sitting in a KRG bravo stock.
