Most Efficient 7mm Cartridge for 195 EOL Elite Hunter???

If you want 3000 without pushing pressure the SS isn't going to get you there. It's a very efficient cartridge but not much different than what you have velocity wise.

The 7-300PRC would get you there without pushing the limits. That way you'd have a modern design that will probably be a factory round soon.

It's not fancy or got some cool name, but the 7mm-300wm is one of these easiest wildcats there is to load for and brass availability and choices abound.
I have looked into this cartridge. It's on my list to contemplate for sure.

My 7 Rum shoots them lightning fast. If you want muzzle velocities that will easily go over 3000 FPS, seriously give the RUM a go. It's one of my favorite rifles.
What's the recoil like? And how much powder do you run in the rum? I'm have looked at this cartridge along with the win mag. They don't seem to be the most efficient of the 7 mm cartridges.

This is basically a 7-300 win mag with 30 degree shoulders right? I like the sounds of it.

I've got 2 7 Wby's I'm shooting the 195's out of. 2950 - 3050 easy out of a 26 inch barrel, pressures maxed out around 3100+. One on a Mark V action, one on a Stryker action. Just got a 3rd on a Defiance action I'll be trying the 195 in as well. Accuracy has been great and my brass life is great too. I'm at 9 firings with minimal losses so far.

Makes a great cartridge espically with a 1/8 twist.

Dang. So which would be a better choice? The 280 sherman, or the 7 ss?

I'm a huge fan of the 280AI and more recently the Sherman. I have plans to build a 280 Sherman for 170-180's. I fear that neither of these will hit that magical 3k with a 195.

I'd go with a 28 Nosler in a non wildcatted round.

If you enjoy the wildcatting part of things and I'll admit it's fun then the sky's the limit. I like the 7mm APR, it's a 7-300 WM Improved designed by the guys at APR. It slightly improved on the 7 Practical. Robert has had a lot of success with it but hasn't pushed it real hard recently.

From there you can get crazy with wildcatting the big boys but it's not really needed to meet your goal.

I left out the 7STW and RUM due to hard to source brass and the length takes up valuable magazine space. They will work but IMO not the best suited.

Have a look at Hornaday's new 300 PRC. It's the 375 Ruger necked down to 308. If you neck the 300 PRC down to 7mm you'd have plenty of velocity. It's much like a 7 WSM only a few tenths longer case.

It's about the same capacity as the 28 Nosler but with a possibly better case design. The case is longer than WSM but shorter than RUM so there is enough magazine length to seat bullets out where they need to be in a long action. I'm thinking about building a 300 PRC to shoot the 230 class bullets at 3000 maybe more.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I'm really liking the idea of the 7-300 WM APR or PRC. The brass would be super easy to find for it. While yes is is a belted case, I can just headspace off of the shoulder after fire forming the cases. I think either the 7-300 WM APR, the 7-300 WM PRC, or the 7-300 norma mag have my attention at the moment.
