Most Efficient 7mm Cartridge for 195 EOL Elite Hunter???

The 7 wsm is on my contemplation list for sure.

I'm currently shooting an 8.5 twist 28" Krieger with 68 grains whereas the Rum burns 20ish more grains? I done feel the 8 twist is necessary and even my previous 9 twist shot fine out to 1k. Keep in mind the 7 wsm has the shoulder moved forward and a shorter neck.

I was considering the 7mm Norma Mag Improved(JAZZ) myself. Ended up with a 300NM instead. What I am getting at is that if the 7mm version is anything like the 300 you wont regret it. Lapua brass is becoming available and it shoots amazing. my 300 shoots .3 or smaller at 100 yards and I've shot several sub 4in groups at 1000 yards. Just my 2 cents

The 28 Nosler will do it and it won't require fire forming or all the mess wildcatting can take. I have really liked mine, I just pulled it apart to make it into a 375 Ruger for a buffalo hunt.

I've started planning for a new rifle build, and will be sticking with a 7mm projectile. I own a 7 SAUM, and a 7 Rem Mag already, and want to be able to use the same suppressor between all three rifles. This rifle will be built specifically to shoot the 7mm 195 gr EOL Elite Hunter. I want it to be in the 3000 fps range, as well. I know what parts I want to use for the most part, but I don't know what cartridge to use. This rifle will be used for Elk and Deer hunting, as well as 1500+ yard target shooting. I'm wondering what the most efficient cartridge is going to be for this task? From what I can see, the 7mm Norma Mag (300 Norma Mag necked to 7mm) looks promising. But what say you guys?

My 28 Nosler shoots them at 3000 and excellent accuracy with RL33. I had them as high as 3150 fps with no signs of pressure but my node was at 3000.

in the original post you wanted to run suppressed. is there an overall length you want to stay at? The 7-300 norma will be the best in shorter barrels. the Norma will have the best options on brass. most of the other cartridges will need 26inch or longer barrel most will need 28. I use to have a 7-338 imp and would not have a problem hitting the velocity goals in a 24 inch barrel

No length goals, but I don't want this to be a heavy tank either. I'm shooting to keep it in the 11-12 lb range with scope, bipod, sling, and ammo.

I've thrown around the idea of just going with the 300 NM, instead of having to mess around with necking it down and fire forming. I was hoping by staying with all 7mm rifles, so that I could get away with just a single suppressor. The 300 NM is a super impressive cartridge by itself. I've personally never owned a 300 caliber rifle. Maybe it's time. What's the recoil like with the 300 NM?

What kind of speeds are you getting with the 195 eol, and the wsm?

Edit: And will a WSM need to be built on a long action to take full advantage of the 195, or will a short action work?

With 68 gr. Retumbo I'm running 3020ish. I would only build it on a long action especially if you plan on using a magazine box. I'm using a Nesika K action and throated my 8.5 tw.barrel for the 195. That throat also works very well for the 180 ELD M. The OAL of my loaded 195 is 3.330"

Recoil is very manageable. Mine is a Defiance Deviant, 27in Bart 8 twist sendero, Manners T4A. I run a thunderbeast can. Shooting the new 230 gr SMK(g1 of .800) at 2995 with Retumbo. I had a 7 RSAUM before and loved the 183 SMK, was wanting a chambering that could push the 197 SMK fast so I looked at the 7mm LRH (jazz). Then saw Sierra had a 230 SMK and Berger is coming out with a 245 Elite Hunter so I went with the 300 Norma just for the energy at distance. Plus where I live its great for ELR, doesn't go subsonic until 2400 yards...

.280 Sherman and 7mm SS (Sherman Short) should get you close to your goal. The old reliable 7mm RemMag will also do it with a 26" barrel. 7mm STW will do it for sure, so will 7mm-300 WinMag, and 7mm-300 Wby Mag. If you want more modern the .28 Nosler will also do what you ask.

The main reason to not go with the Weatherby, IMO, would be because the 7mm RemMag does the exact same thing as the 7mm Wby Mag, and 7RM brass and ammo costs less and can be found nearly everywhere. Not to mention you won't have to fight with all that stupid free-bore that Weatherby designed into all their chambers.
