After playing with an acquaintance savage MKII set up with Boyd's tacticool stock at 200-300 I decided I needed a LR 22lr in the safe. I picked up this Ruger Precision rimfire and have a SWFA SS 10x milquad on the way to put on top of it. I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

I got the 10x SWFA SS mounted and got it out shooting today. It did better with standard velocity and subsonic than it did high velocity ammo. The best load out of it today was CCI standard velocity. Accuracy at 100 was pretty decent and after getting my drop, 13 mils, hitting my 9x12 steel spinner was a blast. Didn't get consistent hits on the 4" but did manage a few hits. It's a good thing this is so quiet because you could barely hear impacts at 300.

Know it's not to me but we all operate the same. U have to get out and shoot and find actual drops. If u plan on shooting that far u need to start with some moa built into base cause most good scopes will still only get u to 400-500 with flat base. I am running flat base and my 400 yd dope is all I can dial and then another 5 mils of reticle.

My scope, a Vortex AMG with 20 MOA bases get me to a about 350 yards max/16MILS. 500 Yards is 28MiLS. While I consider 350 my accurate max, I have shot a few times(not very accurately) out to 500 using 10 Mils of reticle and estimating a 2 mil additional hold over. Our rimfire PRS matches top out at 350 yards....for now.

I have a area 419 30 MOA reticle with sig tango 4 and it easilydials 400, the longest at my local range.

With swfa 10x HD with flat base I get 15 mils and then hold another 5 mils of reticle for my 400.

For 500 you need a pile of elevation. A 30moa rail and a 34-35mm scope.
Accuracy past 400 is tricky with the 22lr. It like shooting 12-1400 yds with a 308

Hey Maddie, get yourself a Ruger Mk pistol or some such equivalent, put a 2X Nikon on top of it that has 140ish MOA of erector travel in it in Burris ***-Align rings and have some real fun out to 500+ shooting stuff. Often enough the ballistics will match well with calcd. and will net you some 1st shots on various inanimate targets. It's quite the kick.

Right now my main long range rimfire is a Savage Mark II TR. Scope is an SWFA SS 10x due to the huge adjustment range it has. Base is an EGW in 20-MOA. Rings are 30mm Burris Signature Zee with another 20-MOA worth of inserts. With HV ammo it likes, such as Aguila Super Extra 40gr copper RN, it can and will hit steel at 500yds. But then again, I was doing this ELR 22 thing way before it was cool. Great practice for the centerfire stuff.

I'm late to the discussion, but will add my observation.

I have a CZ 455 and a 10/22 set up for 200 yards +. The CZ has the stock 1:16 varmint barrel and the 10/22 has a Green Mountain 1:9 barrel. I shoot only CCI Standard Velocity or Wolf Match Target in these two rifles.

My impression is that the GM 1:9 barrel shoots "denser" groups; but I can't rule out it is for reasons other than the 1:9 twist. For example, both rifles may shoot 12" 50 shot groups at 200; but the 1:9 will have a significantly higher percentage of those shots in the bull than the 1:16.

I love shooting the .22 to 200 yds and slightly beyond as it is the ultimate, "dope the wind and hold" fun gun
