Hard cast will be fine. You can also cast hard bullets at home. I buy mine from Rim Rock Bullets.

Rim Rock is a great company to do business with. And….when/if you call the company an actual person will answer the phone and will actually be capable of answering your questions!!! I've just started loading their "TOP SHELF" hard cast 10mm bullets, but not had time to shoot them as of yet. Also loaded up some 9mm as well. The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend and might get a chance to get out to the range. If I do I might be able to answer leading questions using the Rim Rock hard casts. The company says that they cast the bullets for BB

Take a look at the Springfield XDm10 OSP. They are a great red dot platform and are good shooters with a funky supported, match barrel.







I have the now discontinued 4.5 OSP

and love it!





Our outfitter carries a Springfield 10mm and he likes it. I'm thinking about the Springfield with hopes of putting Crimson Trace grips on it. I have holster issues with the top mounted or front mounted lasers. When bear hunting for me it's over bait as I have mobility issues. I use a Craft cross draw holster because I find it more accessible from a sitting position. With the G20 Crimson Trace does not make a laser grip sight, probably because the grip is already too large for some shooters

I have shot Rim Rock Bullets for many years.In the past you could order bullets over .400 as I ordered ,402 several times.The Smith & Wesson pistol I shot them in back then slugged at .399 so I wanted something a little bigger than .400 to prevent leading.Slug your barrel to find out your barrel size and order bullets that you are sure will not lead the barrel.If your shooting the Glock mine slugged at .398,yours may be different.
Also,hard cast at 18-22 on the Brinnel hardness scale will not lead the barrel as long as the fitment is proper.
Like others mentioned that you can powder coat your bullets and that will prevent all leading as no lead will come into contact with the barrel.

Thanks for this information. I'm going to do some research on powder coating bullets. I've powder coated lead fishing lures in the past, will look into doing bullets. There can't be that much difference between the bullets and the lures.

For now I picked up 4 boxes of Underwood 220 gr hard cast and 4 boxes of HSM 200 gr hard cast but I will get a mold and cast my own later.I wanted to see which load shoots best in this new S&W M&P 2.0.
I had some 150 gr hollow point Noslers I had for many years and loaded a few with an old familiar load of Bluedot 10.7 grs that I used to use in my old Smith&Wesson many years ago.That is a pretty warm load.

I picked up a m&p2 in 10mm also over the weekend...
I hear you may need to up the recoil spring #age to 24 from the factory 17 if you run heavy loads without a sight hanging on top. We'll see about that soon I guess... I didn't buy this pistol to run the same as my Beretta 96, so I may be looking for heavier springs.

With factory barrels it's not recommended to shoot lead due to possible buildup. There's a person on another forum that does shoot lead projectiles, but limits the amount between cleaning. Be safe!

these S&W pistols have standard rifling. Cast is fine as long as the load doesn't lead badly. Glocks are another story...

The most important thing for shooting lead is to slug your barrel and fit the bullet to it accordingly. Since we're talking 10mm i'll talk about them. Factory jacketed ammo is usually .401". So if your barrel is .400 or .401 then for lead you would want .402-403". Since lead is softer than copper it will swage down to the barrel and seal it. If you were to shoot .401" out of a .401" barrel you might have the bullet not fully engage the rifling and skid down the barrel and deposit lead.
Properly sizing a bullet to a particular barrel will almost always solve any leading issue you may have had in the past.

The factory pills I've run in 40 cal. have been .400" even. I run my cast art .401" in my Beretta 96 and I can shoot a couple hundred in a day with no leading. I do use Lyman black lube from a Lyman lube/sizer that has proven worthy to 1900 fps from one of my rifles.
I agree fully that measuring diameter on the barrel is important but slugging only shows where the TIGHTEST diameter is. With cast you really want the chamber end a touch looser than the muzzle. Reverse that to tight chamber end or god forbid tight cylinder throats on a revolver you will have a tough time shooting cast, no matter how perfect the pill is.

We will see about the recoil spring as I hope to shoot some tomorrow if our weather holds out.I have the 220 gr coated hard cast Underwood and 200 gr Hard Cast HSM factory ammo as well as180 gr Nosler HP's to test.
I'll report as soon as I get back.

please do. I see they are using a different spring in my pistol than the early ones. The first issues were painted red on the muzzle end.

When I slug a barrel I run a pure lead slug into the muzzle 2 inches and remove with a wooden down and measure then I take another slug and run it 2 inches into the breech end of the barrel and remove and measure.Both of my measurements were the same.397.
I then clen the barrel and reassemble so Lefty7mmstw I expect yours will be the same.

Yep they changed the recoil spring and magazine spring and the salseman at Sportsman wharehouse said after that change they have not had one come back for repairs so far.

that's a good idea on slugging the bbl... a lot of guys simply run one home from stem to stern.
Good to know on the spring; we may not have to play the spring game after all.
.397 is rather tight... a .401 cast bullet is already a touch big then

Lefty7mmstw I got another shock lesson at 2:30 this am.No one makes 40 cal gas checks.
I went to Cast Boolits forum (they spell it funny) and someone asked the question as to why no 40 cal gas checks.
Several on the forum replied that you don't need gas checks on 40 S&W or 10 MM as it's below the threshold of leading if you size it correctly.
I read for 1/2 and hour and all that shoot 40 S&W and 10 mm shoot cast bullets but size them at least .002 over slugging measurement.
Zero leading with well over 400 rounds in a Glock 10mm but if I remember right he said he casts at 20- 22 Brinell hardness.Another said 15-18 on the Brinell scale.Some are using spray enamel paint as a coating and curing in an oven.
I had an Accurate Mold picked out with gas check but I can't find gas checks anywhere so I'll buy my bullets from Rim Rock or Cast Performance and powder coat them to insure zero leading.
