LHT vs NX8

To the OP. No scope beats a NF optic in rugged reliability! You couldn't give me anything Vortex. Every single Vortex I have helped shooters with had an issue sooner or later. I stake my life and reputation on NF after all I have put them through. Still boggles my mind how guys can think highly of a company that bases their reputation on their warranty which you will for sure use over a company that you will rarely ever need to use warranty but still have for the same price or now days cheaper than most other options. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I don't mean to be contentious but is dropping your rifle a common thing? I have hunted and shot since 1965 and have never dropped a rifle… Do we need a scope that is as durable as an anvil? I want decent glass and repeatable internals, I'm a hunter, not an "operator".
I have fallen on my rds topped shotgun crossing cut corn. I also slipped on a steep hill side causing my rifle to fall a bit. I also dropped my AR15, but that was in the house on concrete.

I try really hard not to be that guy.

If you look into the drop tests, they are not "drop" tests like you may imagine. These ate 3' drops top and both sides of an optic mounted on a slightly heavy Tikka hunting rifle. The guns are dropped onto a sleep pad. This sort of represents a gun falling off your back or from your arms onto prairie grass, maybe if it first lands on butt or barrel. It is not abusive.

This is not like the guy who drops carry optics on concrete from 5' mounted on a pistol.

Therefore I buy decent optics. I'm slowly moving towards Nightforce.

What would you pick instead?
I have become a fan of Element optics. In this case I think the Nexus Gen 2 is spectacular. Good glass, and intuitive features that work the way my brain does. Tool free turrets with the zero stop integrated into the cap. Fast focus European style eye piece unlike the LHT. The entire ocular assembly doesn't spin like an ATACR or NXS when you increase the magnification. Its made by LOW just like NF but you arent paying for the name. It still has push button illumination, but it works better than it did on either of the two LHTs that I had. Element's reticles have a larger center dot as well which helps with FFP in hunting applications.

I have never dropped a rifle, but when my saddle slipped throwing me off into the river in Alaska, my rifle with an ATACR Nightforce was drug up the rocky bank underneath the horse and up the rocky bank. Scope and gun were scared and dinged but the Nightforce never missed a beat.
Sometimes you need a tough scope! Get whatever Nightforce you can afford!

I've shot one NX8 and first shot it ate my lunch…I couldn't believe I didn't have blood running down my face. The eyebox is too short and I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet.

I have more than I'd care for my wife to know about SFP LHT's. It's my go to scope, been good ones and less than 20oz…hard to complain. I really have come to prefer the dot over crosshairs. I've hunted with one FFP and couldn't see the crosshairs on low in low light, so I don't use them.

NF builds probably the toughest scope on the market. I'm not one of the guys that can tear up an anvil and I have zero use for a 30oz scope.
