LHT vs NX8

ANY of NF scopes are solid and quality builds! Adjustments are exact. Glass and tubes draw in a lot of light. This thread seems to be about just NXS, but NF makes, among others, the great ATACR and if you want to step it up; go to the B.E.A.S.T. ! I also love love the zero stops on their scopes! As someone pointed out; you can buy "used" but really almost perfectly new, NF scopes on this web site. I have bought several of them here. I would NOT buy another Vortex. Their quality has dropped a lot.

NX8, but only if you want durability and reliability.

These "what scope?" threads have gone from being posted once a week to about once a day. It'd be a lot more efficient if we could point people to actual data and test results instead of just replying with subjective experiences and opinions.

The posts from Formidilosus on rokslide are pretty good. Would be even better if these results could be quantified a little better, and combined into one data set/sheet.

LHT Review:

NX8 Review:

I don't mean to be contentious but is dropping your rifle a common thing? I have hunted and shot since 1965 and have never dropped a rifle… Do we need a scope that is as durable as an anvil? I want decent glass and repeatable internals, I'm a hunter, not an "operator".

I think you know the answer to that. Murphy does not discriminate. About 20 years ago, I was hunting with my son's .30-06. It was a muddy mess, and I slipped and dropped the rifle. It was a Leupy Vari-XI 3-9x40; it dented the front objective bell but not the lens. It was not LR, but I harvested a muley doe at 200 yards. I asked my son if I should replace it or send it for inspection/repair, and he said, "No, it adds character." The exact scope is still on the rifle, and he has harvested plenty of games after the incident.

That's an interesting point. I can't ever remember actually dropping my rifle. However, I don't climb mountains or traverse particularly rough terrain in the dark either.

Put 100 lbs of elk meat in your pack and carry it a few miles back to the truck, in the dark, in 6" of snow in steep, rocky terrain. Do it 6-8 times a year for 20 years and then tell us how many times you've slipped and fallen down. It's not about dropping rifles specifically, but whipeouts happen and guns are along for the ride.

Ive had all kinds of mishaps, stocks broken, dented tubes.Fell on rifle and had to beat bolt open with stick

I have both. The LHT does not even get close to the clarity and light transmission of the NX8. I have two NX8's and am about to get a third. I use the 4-32x version as a spotting scope in the field.

Off topic but im pretty sure B Beck bought out Defiance machine. Here a while back

Humm..I'd say they NX8 is a far better scope out of the 2 you listed --I'm not a fan of how the NX8 series are laid out wish they would have had just made it like the NXS 2.5x10 42mm--would have looked better to my eye--but what do I know. Marketing was never my strong suit.

I'd say a more fair comparison of the NX8 would be

A maven RS 3.2 and the NX8

Same weight the maven may be a shade lighter , build quality is more similar, glass quality to my eye the maven has it, the NF has a better magnification range would be its positive.

For an outlier look at the Element Nexus--

The one I played with a few months ago was excellent

If weight is not a factor then don't bother with the LHT, that is its one and only selling point. Mushy controls, shiny finish, annoying illumination button, clumsy locking ring on the ocular lens for reticle focus, and a mediocre reticle.

I won't tell you to buy a NF either as I am not personally a fan of their products, but it comes down to those two I would pick NF.
What would you pick instead?
