Leupold mark 5 3.6-18

Maybe I'm lucky or just haven't used my Leupold scopes enough but I haven't lost zero on any of mine—2 VX6s; VX5; Mark 5; and a Mark4.
I did lose zero on my VX5 one time when the sling slipped off my shoulder when I slipped going down a steep slope of basketball sized rocks. The rifle hit the rocks pretty hard and I'm thankful I didn't end up with scope caps full of broken glass. I figured losing zero after something like that would be expected with any scope so I didn't think too much of it, but maybe some scopes would hold zero after that. Like I said, it hit really hard. Hard enough to put gouges in my barrel. I'm 6'5" and it basically had a free fall from my shoulder to the ground.
But specifically to your Mark 5 question, I love mine (7-35x) and I don't have any complaints. I'd agree with what was said about choosing the Mark 4 because of the 34mm tube size and opening up your options for rings. My Mark 4 is great too.

I have 3 NF on rifles one the 300WM shot the mile at fouled bore in OK, and my wife has one on here 6.5 CM RPR I have nothing but good to say about them. If properly set up everything adjusted etc… I have never had an issue. And just did the 25 moa tracking target using a plumb bob to set target and her 6.5 and my 300 where spot on 5 adjustments of 5 moa steps up and 4 at 10 moa box at the top. Both did well. For me it's all about tracking and clarity. All the "eye boxes" seem to be better for me than most. I have just stuck with them through the years so I may be a bit biased, but like everything else it's all subjective, go with what you like, and serves you well. I had a Leopold a long time ago (several decades ago) and it served well and they had a great warranty then with good customer service I can't speak for them now though.
Good luck
Nick

I have a couple Leupold vx5 and 6 and had to have my 6 rebuilt. That scope gets used a lot and up that that point it was awesome and I think it still is. Since I have it back I have not tall tested it but it is doing what it is supposed to. For many years that scope got abused in my pack, on dirtbikes, on atvs and utvs, etc. The dials got hammered every week. Glass has been as good as my NF. I have used a friends mark 5 and the series is on the most used scopes in the competition world and particularly the PRS world. In PRS the shooter isn't dialing a ton for each stage but I will say this, your scope better be spot on for tracking and hold zero or it gets replaced. This is a crew that spends 10k on comp rigs and the scope is very important. I am not loyal to Leupold at all but I have very little bad to say so far. NF is a solid choice and I had very good results with mine.

Currently own two Mark 5 3.6-18x44 PR1 MOA scopes and love them. One on a 7 saum, the other on a 6.5 prc. I think they're a great option for short to medium action builds. I have not had one single issue with either of mine... however, as you've read above there has been an unfortunate track record of QC & other issues. Maybe it's one of those products where "if you get a good one"... but idk.

That said, I also own and love the NX8's. The NX8 4-32x50 MOAR F1 scope is my favorite scope I've tried to date for best all around. Compared to the Mark 5, I do find the NX8 is "sharper" or more crisp, but the Mark 5 glass is brighter. The Mark 5 is easier to look through with a more forgiving eyebox too.

Pick your poison and run with it, test your own products 👊🏾
