Let’s talk sizing…..

For best consistency of CBTD, internal neck run out, and general case fit, what works best for you?

Redding type S full die

Redding body die + Lee collet neck die

Redding body die + Redding Type S neck die

Body die + bushing die + expander

Forster die with neck honed

Up to this point, my best results have been with a Forster FL die….0.0016" Max TIR, if I remember right. My Redding type S or Whidden setups are only 0.002" with the bushing clamped.

Based on my data??, I would go Forster for my next die set, but I'm wondering about people's experience with a body die and the Lee Collet die. It seems like a way to size the neck concentrically with the inside aligned to the primer hole.

Standard FL RCBS or Redding dies with decapper removed. Mandrel size, and go bug hole some groups.

Next is honed forster die

I've had amazing results from some honed Forsters and some run of the mill results from others, but never bad results. I think overall, the Redding Body Die/Lee Collet Die combo give a little better results. I've been playing with a new .308 barrel lately, using the Redding Body/LCD combo and on most of my cartridges, runout at the bullet ogive is about .001" and never exceeds .002".

I have had generally good results from bushing dies but prefer either of the above to bushing dies because they size the entire case neck don't form donuts.

For my precision loadings, I use Forster honed neck FL BR dies with highly polished expanders sized to MY specs. I use their competition seating dies and Redding Body dies followed by a mandrel. I have also honed both RCBS (especially them) and Redding dies to suit my purposes, however, this is a lot of work. I also NEVER use a standard as they come expander, mine are all sized and polished for what I want.
I will never go back to bushing dies, they just aren't as good as many make them out to be. How a floating bushing is better than a fixed neck in a die has never proven to me it is…donuts…I got the most runout from bushing dies.

I don't worry about runout. I used to obsess over it, but found no appreciable difference in accuracy.

Neither did F Class John when he rested runout even to extreme amounts.

25yrs ago I sold mine off after a few blind tests of varying runout from .001-.009.
