In Steve's defense, he didn't start this thread. ButterBean did. But how anyone in the hunting world hadn't heard the politics of the lead free bans is very surprising. Obviously it's not a new issue, since the Sierra Club supports the video in question.

I started this thread because we have a great Bald Eagle population here, My family kills coyotes and ground hogs an leave them for the birds, the thought never crossed my mind of them getting lead poising this way.
Whether or not if it's true I'll do my part to be a steward of the land and protect the eagles, that was my sole intent plain and simple,
I honestly thought we were all sportsmen and stewards of the land, obviously I was mistaken, absolutely no ill will towards you

I've started to fill my hammer hollow points with mercury then top them with a plastic tip I pulled out of an ELD-X. Lead problem solved and I get the benefits of a heavier/higher BC bullet in a copper package!!

But Steve, what are the possibilities of a copper bullet with a TSS core? You could retain the nose shedding petals but the base would be a TSS slug surrounded in copper to keep the low engraving pressure. I'm sure it'd be stupid expensive like TSS shotgun rounds, but she'd be heavier than lead and probably have a higher BC?

In all seriousness I think banning lead for hunting is coming. It'll be banned on fed lands first, then states will follow. I'm not in favor of this, but as everything else that is going on in the world I don't think we stand a chance.

It would be interesting if someone could find a study like this that has been conducted recently in California? Or, once all lead is banned do the studies stop? How has lead levels in the condor decreased since the full out ban in the state in 2019? Or, are these kind of studies no longer funded once lead hunting is banned?

Man that is about the he poorest logic, this film was not about number but about how a heavy element is effecting raptors specifically, your essentially arguing that slow poisoning is OK due to numbers, that's hardly a management method ANYONE would get behind. Now propose their numbers are high resulting in the legal taking of a quote and I'm first in line!!

If they don't eat the contaminated meat then they don't get poisoned. Not hard to figure.

Read up on the condors, where the lead ban first started. You'll see it's all about politics and stopping hunting. The Eagle just replaced the condor is all.

The issue is much greater than an 8 minute left wing sponsored video can cover.

If we boil every conversation down to left or right and pound stakes in the ground we loose, no way we have enough people on our side to just say if your not 100% in line with our ideology your the enemy and everything from you is wrong, we loose everything!! I'm not saying compromise but I'm saying we can not just hardline everything and we end up acting all tribal like the Soros of the world want then we are undoubtedly the smaller tribe which will inevitable lead to capitulation OR civil war neither of which is a winning path!!

Did you find the definition when you looked up how to spell it?

Still unsure how no liking a bullet company to partner with an anti-lead study is ignorant, but I guess it's easier to deflect and name call.

And like I've said before, I have experience with mono bullets and after having one FMJ and another shed petals and leave .284 holes in and out, I decided they weren't for me.

Based off of this thread I will never shoot "hammer" bullets, even if lead is banned. Not only do you have to deal with the constant "hammered" threads, if you don't drink the kool-aid you're labeled as ignorant and "pregadiced"...

Sometimes you have to draw a hard line.
There's nothing wrong with compromise but for some reason after a compromise we're (hunters) losing out and the other side loses nothing. Anyone remember the hunting plan for wolves after reaching so many breeding pairs? Yes it's legal in some states now but how many lawsuits did it take?
There is going to be a ban of lead on some nationally owned land as soon as this year.

I think you should listen to some of the many shooters that shoot hammer bullets with great success, and perhaps you may discover a better mouse trap. Just leave the politics out of the bullet choice. Let your barrel's accuracy and terminal performance on game make your decisions. If you feel like the bullets work, order 10 boxes.

Don't confuse self defense with righteousness. You also don't have to read threads about Hammer success stories. I'm sorry you can't tell the difference either.
