Kuiu 40% sale. Help

If you want all around gear from Kuiu, to stay warm and the ability to stay comfortable.

Guide Pants are hard to beat, better in the wind then the attack pants. I've hunted in Kuiu for years and my system is about the same from early to late.

Guide pant
Guide vest
Kenai Hooded jacket
Merino top is the one I change the most from the 140-200 depending on temp. I prefer the hooded vs non, amazing how much they cut the wind.
And the absolute 1 one thing I leave in my pack is the puffy pants. Life savers! Don't weigh anything and is like sitting in a sleeping bag while glassing. A good rain jacket if it calls for a lot of moisture. But for the most part I never have my rain jacket. If you get those basics from them you will be set. Any long underwear will do, and good socks.
You can live in that setup for the entire hunt and be perfectly content.

Good luck

I got the super down pro hooded jacket for an elk hunt in the Gila this past December. It worked from 8 deg when we started in the morning to siting and glassing when the temp went from 50-30 as the sun dropped at night.

I hate being cold and this first trip that I didn't get cold. Most of my hunting is stand hunting in the East and I used to go through a box of hand warmers in a season trying to stay warm.

My experience:
Kuiu system works well,
…if it fits you.

My advice is to buy your items that are fit for purpose. The more you know about your hunt and its conditions, the better choices you can make.

The main issue I have with Kuiu is fit. A lot of their stuff seems to favor the taller, leaner Hunter, not those of us at 5-6" and 160 pounds. I live about 45 minutes from their Dixon store so I can try on clothing. If you live far away and want to return items you will pay for shipping so the Kuiu direct to customer sales model is not always getting customers best overall cost. When you check the details on pants, for example, there are different options for different styles. I love my attack pants. I have an early version I bought before they offered options for inseam and rise. Like some of the Winter pants on sale now, the early Attack only came in 34" inseam so I had them tailored to 31" at extra cost. My second Attack pants fit fine because I could choose 31" waist and 32" inseam which is fine. BYW I bought solid color pants and wear year round except summer. I would look at their Guide pants for a late season hunt and later appropriately The Pro pants with knee pads are awkward for me because the pads are too far below my knees to be comfortable. Your legs may vary.

The Kutana jacket is very good for a lot of weather conditions but Colorado can see drastic differences between rifle seasons so the more you know about your hunt the better your choices will be.Jackets can be fitted for backpackers with front pockets up high and a little shallow for my general use but it works great if wearing a backpack.

I wouldn't be too early to buy the sale right now. There will be more sales before your hunt. Talk to your guide/outfitter to understand the hunt better.

Hey, I live and hunt a bunch in Alaska. I've been using the Kuiu clothing since it first came out. I have a bunch of it. I love their merino wool, it's never felt itchy to me. I run pretty warm too.
Stuff that goes with me on every hunt no matter where I'm going:
The Merino pant base layer, the ability to take them off or put on without having to take everything off is awesome
Merino hoodie
Peloton 97 hoodie or shirt, crazy how warm it is for how light it is
Depending on how wet it's going to be or weight limitation: super down pants and jacket or Kenai pants and jacket
Guide jacket
Talus hybrid pants/attack pants (even better now they have different inseams)
Strong fleece 280 zip jacket
Chugach NX jacket and pants (rain gear) also great while sitting on a mountain side glassing
Kuiu kutana gaters, used to use black diamond but their quality has gone down
Kuiu ultra merino socks
I still have some Sitka stuff and a few First lite items. Love the Sitka gloves, mine were the Mountain WS, closest now are the Jetstream HD WS and I have a 20 something year old pair of the blizzard gloves, they are not waterproof anymore but they're good if it's not pouring
Marsupial bino harness, made in USA!
Super old Black Diamond trekking poles
I think that about covers it. Good luck
Take Care

Lots of great info on here for you OP! I run all Kuiu gear and the prev. comment about getting solids is a key one. KUIU looks good around town as well. I run Peleton 118 as a base then a wool 145 over top with usually a Peleton 240 jacket when it's in the teens/20's for the hike in then add a puffy when glassing. Bottoms are either Peleton 97 or wool 145 base under the Encounter pants with puffy pants in the pack when it's cold. I'm 6' even and 210 ish lbs and get XL for tops and 36 (summer) or 38 (winter) reg for pants. I'm in AZ and hunt both low(2000 ft ish) to 6-7k ft+ so have a variety. (and no money…). Hope this helps.

It's all fantastic and I appreciate every bit of it. It takes a lot to make long posts.
I'm definitely not the tall and thin. I'm 5'11" and 260. XL-2xl depending on tops and 40 waist. I have no where hear on the East Coast that I know of to try these clothes on. And now that NY banned all clothes made with gor-tex I have to ship to a friend in another state (FML lol).
I'm going to grab the guide pants and a 240 vest to start. And go from there.
And keep the suggestions coming it's very important

1st season around Craig is generally pretty mild although there is always a chance of a storm. Attack pants, a guide vest and jacket will get you through most conditions that time of year. Throw in a heavier jacket for sitting/glassing and around camp at night but doesn't need to be a Kuiu.
3rd season tends to be a little more frozen with the temps not getting as high during the day. Attack pants with long underwear will still be good along with a pair of gaiters. Upper body needs one more layer than 1st season. The country around Craig varies from rolling sagebrush not bad to walk in to some pretty rugged hills that will need layers you can shed to not get too sweaty.

I agree 💯. If I can find the same quality at Costco I would buy it in a heartbeat. Buy one cry once I guess. I go out west every few years so this will last me forever. As long as I don't get fatter lol. I hate spending money like that but don't like wasting on sub par products as well. I figured the sale was on and if I can grab 2-3 items I'm slightly ahead

I'm selling thing here to find it all so there a little savings back to me as well

Great reply vern. I now have a set of Sitka because of Europtics closeout pricing. I'll admit 99% of my hunting here in Texas is done sitting in a heated blind, sippin coffee but I'm old and my days of 10,000 ft hunting are done. Next week I leave for a Nilgai hunting trip near the King Ranch, 40*-60*.

plus, the new "disco style "hunting" pants look gey to me, made of plastic, fit too tight, zippers everywhere RE: Stone Glacier, Sitka, Kuiu, etc.

I'm old and grumpy, so there's that;)

Mix and match pieces that you find on sale and that fit what you want to do. I wear SKRE, Kuiu, FirstLite, Kryptek, pnuma. Those zip off kuiu bottoms-only used them once(the zip off part) after I got dressed and had to pee and found I had them on backwards, and it was after I had boots on. Came in handy then but otherwise never use that feature. A gimmick but can be useful. FirstLite base bottoms that are short are a little too short for me as the bottoms of leg ends up at my knee and the Kuiu ones are a little longer and stay down. Kuiu sizing I had to go up one size, pants from 34 to 36 and they fit much better. Most my stuff is older from them, I just don't tear it up while hunting. Some snags in the pants from thorns and such but no rips. All the brands listed no issues with seams coming apart or zippers failing. I have 2 rain jackets and one pant from Kuiu, ultra nx(no longer available), for packing and they work reasonably well. Not great for downpours but it will keep the wind off keep you reasonably dry and I haven't tore them on thorns or anything else yet. I have a set of SKRE rain pants and they seem to be a tougher material. Only have both wool and synthetic base layers from SKRE and only wool base layers from the others. I seem to only use down garments at camp, but I tend to be more mobile in my hunting and don't like exercising in down and it's noisy when moving.

I was talking with a Cabelas guy once and he said lots of people draw some special hunt somewhere so they buy a bunch of gear at Cabelas, head to toe, for the hunt, wear it for that week or so and return it under their satisfaction guaranteed return policy.

I have a mix between First Lite and Kuiu. Kuiu seems to be more durable, though I have First Lite items I've worn year round for regular clothes since 2017. (They looking a bit raggedy tho, LOL) I really like the Fusion pattern and I swear I've tricked some deer that just couldn't make out what I was & how far away. The idea to get solids to wear as everyday clothes is a good idea.

Eastern hunting vs Western hunting is Western hunting the clothes are lighter and layered. Western is hiking over over the place, sometimes 10 miles a day for days on end. Eastern is tree stand or shack and not moving much. (maybe drunk or hung over)
