IMR 4831 Go to powder for what?

If you are shooting a factory rifle/barrel, throw out the recommended COALs and have your freebore/throat checked. You will likely be amazed how far out you can seat a 130 or 150 and stay off the lands. My Remmy has enough to keep 160 grn rnd noses off the lands and that makes for tons of throat.

When you get them out to -.020" to -.050" you may be surprised how well your .270 likes that stuff!

If you are loading for more than one rifle, check them all though.

IMR 4831 is a very good powder in the 300 Win Mag with 150 thru 180's.
After that bullet weight H4831 or RL 22 gets my vote with heavier bullets.

Ditto on 270 must be a Rogue, I ve loaded and shot IMR4831 over the last couple decades in at least 6 different 270 s with 130 BT s and all would shoot under MOA with very good velocity. 3100-3175 fps.

I never could get similar velocity with H4831 before running out of case space thus my swing to the IMR version. As someone already stated 57-58 grains is the sweet spot; work up.

It's also performed wonderfully for me with 300 WM, 150-180 gr bullets. My 6.5X55 and 243
also shoot accurately with it.

Shhhh, don't tell anyone but my 6.5CM shoots it with 140 and 147 s ELDM s, 43.5 grs, at 5/8 to 3/4" with 2700+ fps. Don't want those shooters putting it out of stock like H4350 and R26....!! lol

Forgot to mention, the 270 s with the 130 BT s typically were around 3.40 OAL. As someone else already mentioned check your throat/s and don't be afraid of getting .020 to .050 from them.

Good Luck.

Both my Rem. 700 Classic 270 Win.'s like IMR 4831 with 140 and 150 Gr bullets. A 150 gr. Nosler Part. and IMR 4831 was my hunting load for many years. That was as before I had a chronograph to verify velocities with.
