- Man-Made Toxins: More than 2,500 chemical substances are intentionally added to foods to modify flavor, color, stability, texture, or cost. Additionally, an estimated 12,000 substances may unintentionally enter the food supply through food-packaging materials, processing aids, pesticide residues, and drugs given to animals.
- Food Processing and Packaging: A new study found that more than 3,600 chemicals that leach into food during manufacturing, processing, packaging, and storage end up in the human body. Seventy-nine of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, genetic mutations, endocrine and reproductive issues, and other health concerns.
