Hornady has strange recommendations

Here is what I sent to Hornadumb lol

Me said:
You guys need to go over your bullet recommendations. A 220 grain Interlock is rated for Dangerous gain. Yet the 200 ELD-X from the .30 caliber mags isn't? Even the 270 ELD-X in a .338 Lapua still isn't rated for dangerous game? Either the ELD-X juat isn't built as tough as the Interlocks, or you guys have made asinine suggestions. If someone called and asked if the .300 Win Mag with a 200 ELD-X would work on brown bears, what would your answer be ?[/]

I will post their reply.

**** it! Just seen my typos. Now they are going to think I'm as smart as a bag of hammers.

I have mixed emotions about hornady to begin with - their superformance stuff is the worst. I watched my buddy spend a couple hundred dollars on that stuff with two different rifles praying it would group - he consistently got 11-12" groups @ 100 yards. He switched to federal premium and the groups dropped below 1".

But I freaking love the precision hunter and match ammo. The precision hunter has killed elk, mule deer and black bear with my 270wsm. Would I use the precision hunter on a grizzly? Hells to the yes! But maybe I am crazy, because I would also use my 270wsm on a grizzly.

I have seen the SST explode on a black bear - its like a nosler ballistic tip. I would never use that on a grizzly...smh

I've posted this before, but I pulled a 180 Interlock out of the old Hornady Heavy Mag ammo. After about 15 seconds the powder started rising, and began to spill over. Seems like the powder weight was in the high 80's, maybe low 90's. I never could figure out how they got it in there.

Simple. They feel the ELD-X will not penetrate as it needs to in thick skinned and heavy-boned animals.

Now place the bullet in the right spot and it will be lights out. But the masses shoot at bone. And the big Dangerous game have heavy bones.

The SST is good enough to you? I found they blow up worse than the Nosler BT

Are grizzly bones really heavier than elk bones? I have my doubts - the eldx has been awesome on elk for me.

They might not be. I would have a hard time saying they would be weaker though. Never tested it. The thing with bears is the vitals are behind the shoulder aways. So in truth, you should never have to hit bone at all. and punching one through the shoulder would be a miss of the vitals.

Besides they might also do it for insurance reasons. Also is a griz considered dangerous game? or is that just the big stuff in Africa?

LOL Never shot any of them. Not sure if its worth a note. But as a separate iteim, they claim only the 225 grain .338 SST is for the dangerouse game.

In my thoughts. they all should work for bear. Even the big ones. That's just me though.

Ok guys, I got the reply from Hornady. I'm posting it here, but I'm also going to make another thread in the Long Range forum, so everyone can see it.
