Aaron, shooting a 7mm rem mag do you feel that the 175 is better than the 162 for any reason? Does the higher BC overcome the extra weight? Gonna try both but am thinking the 175 will perform better overall assuming my gun can shoot them accurately.

It's perfect! I feel the extra BC in this case does deliver more performance down range, however, the difference isn't night and day, so I suggest exploring accuracy with either. It really depends on where your loads end up in terms of velocity. Play the numbers game with a 2950 fps velocity with 175s, and 3050 fps with the 162 grain ELD-X. Look at down range velocity, and wind deflection. Those are the key metrics of comparison.

I see your point , and I really wanted the eld to work for me but it didn't and Im pouting a little because they did not and i really wanted them to shine for me .
But reading the other posts that you don't even have the eld yet how can you say that they are going to surpass all other bullets ? Maybe you guys had a test run I don't know. But if I was sponsored by a certain company I would say they are the new revolution as well.

I hope these catch on, because I would love to see a 6mm and a .270cal offering from Hornady. These would be perfect in my .243 and .270 Winchester when a long shot presents itself. The 140gr SSTs have worked great in my .270 but a bullet that offers improved terminal performance, higher BC, and match grade accuracy would really be awesome!

Right?! I had always hoped Hornady would bring out an A-MAX in .277 but when they announced the ELD-X I was surprised they didn't introduce like a 150gr .270 bullet and a 105gr for the .24cal rifles. Both of these calibers are great for deer and other medium game and the ELD-X would really add to their effective range and increase their performance.

Right?! I had always hoped Hornady would bring out an A-MAX in .277 but when they announced the ELD-X I was surprised they didn't introduce like a 150gr .270 bullet and a 105gr for the .24cal rifles. Both of these calibers are great for deer and other medium game and the ELD-X would really add to their effective range and increase their performance.

I'm sure they will put something out in 270, but I'm not sure they will go to 150 grain as the 10" twist and rather long pill would likely not co-exist too well.

Hornady currently offers 13 bullets in .270 cal.,
bullet weights in 100 gr, 110, 120, 130, 140 and 150 gr, some of the weights come in several bullet designs, Hornady has the .270 caliber bullet arena pretty well covered from squirrels to moose or for anything that can be done with 270 cartridges, if a fella can't dump a deer with a 150 gr InterBond or reach it with the 150 gr SST a 150 gr ELD-X or ELD Match won't help anything .........no real pressing need for another bullet in that bullet diameter, Berger and Matrix have the long range part covered pretty well in .277"

The area that Hornady bullets are needed is 375 caliber and 8mm !
They have 4 in 375 cal and 6 in 8mm buth none are long range hunting associated ....... This is what Hornady needs to look at and fill that void ......

Somewhere around 220-250 gr in 8mm and 320-380 gr in 375 cal ELD-X and/or ELD Match would be appropriate

The SSTs are too tough for long range shooting in a .270 Winchester. I killed a deer a couple years back with my .270 at 728yds and the 140gr SST, with a muzzle velocity of 3080fps, only left a little tiny exit but still managed to drop the doe and she only went 30 yards. I would like an ELD for these shots, but I have my .300 for this now, but the .270 would still be capable with a good long range bullet. I don't trust hollow points for long range shots, that's my opinion. I believe a .270cal ELD-X would be awesome and bring the old .270s into the 21st century. Every other caliber has a slew of bullets available for them as well, so why not offer the ELD for the .270s?

I don't think an 8mm ELD-X is needed. I know one guy who hunts with an 8mm Remington Mag. Might as well get a big .30 or go to .338cal.

I also think a 150-160gr .270 ELD would make a lot more sense over the 150gr SST. Just look at the 7mm 162gr SST vs. the 162gr ELD-X. The SST has a .550 while the ELD-X has a .613 BC! Now tell me they can't increase the .525 BC of the 150gr SST?

Well, I contacted Hornady with my wishes and their response was swift and sure sounds like they are gonna have some new additions to the ELD-X & ELD Match line of bullets but not this year !
also looks like they have selected what the new offerings will be for 2017, here is the response I got from them today
